Why here

Why choose Villa & hotel photography in Yogyakarta?

Yogyakarta is not Bali’s private-pool-villa market, and listing photos should not pretend it is. What it has is character: guesthouses in Prawirotaman built around a courtyard and a plunge pool, homestays in restored joglo houses with carved teak and painted ceilings, and resort-style properties in the hills around Borobudur that sell a view of the temple and the volcanoes. Those are the things a guest scrolls for. They are also hard to photograph well. A joglo interior is dark wood under deep eaves next to a blazing courtyard, so a single exposure either loses the carving in shadow or burns the garden to white. We bracket and blend every frame, so the room and the view are both there, and we show the property as the place it is.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Yogyakarta look like?

01

The route

Before the day we agree a shot list with you: which room type sells best, what makes the place different, and what your current photos fail to show. On arrival we walk through with you or your manager, open every shutter and switch on every lamp, then clear the clutter — towels, remote controls, cables. The first frames are the hero: the pendopo or the courtyard pool, shot from the corner that shows the whole space. Then the best room, from the doorway and from the bed towards the window, then the bathroom if it has stone or an outdoor shower. Details come last and fast: carved panels, batik on the bed, the breakfast tray. Thirty minutes covers the essentials of a small guesthouse; for several room types or a twilight frame with the lights on and the pool glowing, book extra hours.

02

The timing

Interiors can be shot most of the day, because blending handles bright windows, but courtyards and pools look best when the sun is off the water — mid-morning or late afternoon. For a property in the Borobudur hills that sells its view, come at dawn: from June to September the plain is often under mist with Merapi clear behind, and by nine the volcano is usually in cloud. Twilight, the twenty minutes after a sunset at around 5.30 to 6 pm, is the frame that sells rooms, with lamps on inside and blue sky outside. In the wet season, November to March, mornings are safer for exteriors. Schedule around guest check-outs, so the best rooms are empty and made up.

FAQ — Villa & hotel photography in Yogyakarta

Our joglo is very dark inside. Can it still look good?

Yes — that is exactly what blended exposures are for. We take several frames at different brightness and combine them, so the carving and the painted ceiling show their colour while the garden outside stays green rather than white. We keep the result natural; a joglo should still feel cool and shaded, not lit like an office.

Can we use the photos on booking platforms and our website?

Yes. The licence covers your listings, your own website and your social media. If you want to use the photos in print advertising or pass them to a third party such as a travel agency, tell us before the shoot and we will confirm the terms in writing.

Can you shoot while guests are staying?

Yes, with planning. We need empty, made-up rooms and a quiet pool for twenty minutes or so, which usually means late morning after check-out. Common areas can be photographed with guests out of frame or with their permission for lifestyle shots. A small guesthouse often closes the pool briefly with a polite sign.

Can you add aerial photos of the property?

Often, yes: the drone add-on is $150, or book a property drone shoot for a full aerial set with video. Whether we can fly depends on your address. Parts of the city sit near the Adisutjipto airfield, the Kraton area is sensitive, and the zones around Borobudur and Prambanan are restricted, so the pilot checks your location before we confirm.
