Children set the pace, not the photographer. Half an hour is short enough to finish before anyone tires, with room for a snack break, and nobody is asked to hold a smile.
- Tell us the children’s ages and their nap times; we plan the start around them and the heat.
- Early morning is usually best — soft light around 6:30, fresh children, an empty beach. The last hour before sunset works for late sleepers.
- We shoot in short bursts with breaks for water and shade, and get the group portraits done while everyone is still patient.
- The rest is play: running, splashing, being carried — the unposed frames that end up on the wall.

A family photoshoot in Bali is 30 minutes with a photographer on a beach, in a garden or at your villa, from $180, with 15+ edited photos in an online gallery within 48–72 hours. The session is planned around the youngest member of the family rather than the backdrop: we pick a place you can reach quickly, with shade, a flat path for a pram and somewhere to sit, and a start time that fits around naps. Grandparents, nannies and extended family are welcome in the frame; tell us the group size in advance so the photographer can take the group shots first.
Beaches work best for families. Sanur and Nusa Dua have calm water and wide sand, which keeps toddlers busy and parents relaxed; Seminyak and Jimbaran put the sunset behind you. In Bali the sun sets around six all year and the soft light lasts under an hour, so evening sessions start about an hour before sunset. Morning sessions suit babies and the wet season, November to March, when afternoon storms are common. The Ubud rice fields look beautiful but involve steps, narrow paths and mud, so we suggest them for families with older children.
Children are not asked to pose for the whole session. The photographer starts with a few group frames while everyone is fresh, then lets the kids run, splash and play and photographs them in motion — that is where the most natural pictures come from. Coordinated rather than matching outfits in light colours read best against sand and greenery; avoid large logos. 15+ edited photos arrive online within 48–72 hours, in full resolution for download and print, and an express 24-hour delivery is available as an add-on.

What time works best with small children?
Early morning. Bali is close to the equator, so the sun rises around six all year and sets around half past six; by nine it is already hot and bright. A start at 6:30 catches soft light while children are fresh and before breakfast crowds reach the beach. If your children sleep late, the last hour before sunset works too — bring snacks, because it runs close to dinner time.
How should a family dress, and what about sunscreen?
Pick two or three colours that sit together — white, sand and blue, say — rather than matching outfits, and skip big logos. Children are happier barefoot on sand, so bring sandals for the walk only. Apply sunscreen and mosquito repellent at least twenty minutes before we start: fresh cream leaves a white sheen on skin and a greasy shine on faces that is hard to retouch.
