How it works
From the first message to the gallery
The dress does most of the work; your part is to walk, turn and look out at the view. On very windy days at the cliffs we shoot further back from the edge, and inland the train is thrown by hand.
- When you book, send your height and bust and waist measurements; we tell you which dresses and colours fit before the day.
- We choose one open location for the wind and the light — a coastal cliff in the last ninety minutes before sunset, or Ubud at sunrise, where the air is still.
- On the day the dress is laced to fit you on location.
- An assistant styles and throws the train for every frame while the photographer shoots.
- 15+ edited photos in a private online gallery within 48–72 hours.

A flying dress photoshoot in Bali is a 30-minute session, from $290, with the dress included and 15+ edited photos delivered online within 48–72 hours. The dress is a long, light gown with a train several metres long; on cue the train is thrown into the air and the frame is timed to the moment it fills with wind, so the fabric hangs above you like a flag. You choose the colour and size before the date — no need to buy or pack anything — and the dress is laced on location just before we start, so the half-hour goes on warming up in front of the camera and trying the throw in a few directions.
Wind and backdrop decide the location. The Nusa Penida cliffs — Kelingking and Diamond Beach — give the classic image of a red dress above turquoise water, but they are a fast-boat ride from Sanur and crowded by mid-morning, so the island-transfer add-on and the earliest boat are the way to do it. Closer to home, the Ubud rice terraces and the open fields around them give green and gold backdrops at sunrise, and the Uluwatu cliffs catch steady ocean wind at sunset. The dry season, April to October, brings the most reliable wind and sky.
Safety comes before the shot. On the cliffs we stay well back from unfenced edges; the angle does the work, not the drop. A light dress in strong wind can pull hard, so flat shoes and a firm stance help, and long hair is best tied loosely or styled with the hair and makeup add-on. Entry tickets at Nusa Penida viewpoints are not included. 15+ edited photos arrive in your gallery within 48–72 hours. If you are booking another session, the flying dress can also be added to it as a $120 add-on.
Before you book
Frequently asked questions: Flying dress photoshoot
Will a dress fit me?
Most likely. The dresses lace up or tie at the back, which covers a wide range of sizes, and the train is long enough that height matters more than dress size. When you book, send your height and bust and waist measurements and we tell you which colours fit before the day. If you are pregnant, say so — the empire-cut dresses work well for maternity shoots.
When is the best light and wind for a flying dress?
On the coast, the last ninety minutes before sunset: the light is warm and there is usually a steady sea breeze to carry the fabric. Inland in Ubud the air is still, so the train is thrown by hand and sunrise mist does the rest. Midday is the worst choice — the sun is overhead and harsh. On very windy days at the Nusa Penida cliffs we shoot further back from the edge.
Can I wear the dress at a temple?
Not inside the temple grounds. Balinese temples require a sarong and sash covering the legs, and a dress with a bare back and a sweeping train is not appropriate in a place of worship. We shoot the dress at viewpoints, terraces and beaches nearby instead, and if you want a temple frame we do it in a sarong — add an extra hour so there is time for the change.
