Why here

Why choose Family photoshoot in Yogyakarta?

Temples and small children are not an obvious match. Borobudur’s upper terraces are now reached only in small guided groups on a timed ticket, Taman Sari is a maze of stairs with a queue at the best one, and the Borobudur sunrise means waking a toddler at 3.30. Prambanan is the exception. Its towers stand on wide, flat lawns with shade trees around the edges, so children can run while the spires stay in every frame, and grandparents do not need to climb anything. Most families visit the compound anyway, so the session simply happens at the end of your visit, after the midday nap and when the heat has gone out of the day. Thirty minutes is about what young children give willingly — enough for one group portrait and a lot of unposed play.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Yogyakarta look like?

01

The route

You explore Prambanan at your own pace in the afternoon, and we meet at an agreed spot on the lawns about an hour before the gates close. The group portrait comes first, while everyone is still clean and willing: the whole family on the grass with the main towers behind, then the same frame with grandparents seated. After that the session belongs to the children. They run towards the camera along the paths, ride on shoulders, chase each other around the rows of small shrines that ring the main courtyard, and we photograph what happens rather than arrange it. If there is energy left, we finish in the shade at the edge of the compound with quieter frames of each parent with each child. For families who would rather not travel with a tired toddler, the same session works in your hotel garden or by its pool.

02

The timing

Prambanan has closed around 5 pm, so the session usually runs from about 3.45 to 4.15, when the sun is lower and the stone turns warm but you are not racing the gate. That also leaves time for a nap at the hotel after lunch, since the drive from the city is around forty minutes. Mornings, from opening until about nine, are a cooler alternative for very young children. From November to March, storms often break in the mid-afternoon, so in the wet season we keep the morning slot as plan A. School holidays in June and July, Lebaran week and New Year bring big domestic crowds to the main courtyard; the outer lawns stay much calmer.

FAQ — Family photoshoot in Yogyakarta

What do we pay on top of the $180?

Only the Prambanan entry tickets for your family, which have separate prices for foreign adults and children and are paid at the gate or online. Travel from your hotel in the Yogyakarta area is included, and a hotel-garden session has no extra costs at all. We list the ticket amounts for your date before you book.

Our children are 2 and 5. Is 30 minutes enough?

For most families it is the right length. Small children are usually at their best for the first twenty minutes, and the photographer works fast: portrait first, play afterwards. If you have a larger group — grandparents, cousins, two families travelling together — an extra hour for $100 gives everyone a turn without hurrying.

Can we stay for the Ramayana ballet afterwards?

Yes. The ballet is staged next to the compound in the evening — on an open-air stage with the lit temples behind it in the dry season, indoors in the wet months. Tickets are separate and the show runs for about two hours, so it suits children who can sit still. The photographer does not stay for the performance, which is ticketed and has its own rules on photography.

What if it rains on the day?

We move the session to another time or day at no charge. If you are leaving soon, we switch to your hotel, where a covered terrace or lobby gives a dry backup. Wet-season storms in Yogyakarta are heavy but often short, and the light just after one, with the stone dark and shining, can be the best of the day.
