The route
The surf-lesson version starts when the lesson does, usually early, and we agree the time with your surf school. For the first fifteen minutes the photographer stays on the waterline with a long lens while the instructor pushes your child into the whitewater — paddling, standing up, falling off, being cheered by a parent knee-deep beside them. Then everyone comes out of the water for the family part: boards on the sand, wet hair, a towel wrapped round the smallest, the whole family walking up the beach with the surf behind. The Pererenan version begins about forty minutes before sunset at the northern end, away from the bars. We start with games — chasing the wash, digging near the fishing boats, a piggyback race — and gather everyone for two or three whole-family frames when the light turns gold. With an extra hour ($100) we begin at your villa, where small children warm up to the camera at home before the beach.
