The route
The 30 minutes are built around the vows. Before the ceremony we ask the officiant — the penghulu at an akad, or the priest at a blessing — where a small microphone may go, and clip one to the groom and, where allowed, place another near the officiant or the bride’s father. The camera sits to one side on a tripod for a steady wide shot, while the videographer works a second angle on the faces, never between the couple and the officiant. With extra hours the film widens. The panggih is covered from two positions so the betel throw and the egg are each seen clearly, with the gamelan recorded separately and laid under the edit. The sungkeman is filmed close and silent. The reception gives the guests’ energy and the stage, and the couple portraits at the end of the afternoon give the film its quiet closing shots.
