Why here

Why choose Wedding film in Ubud?

Filming a wedding in the Ubud jungle is a different technical problem from filming one on a cliff. The wind is gone, but other sounds take its place: a river below the ceremony deck, cicadas that start up in the late afternoon, rain drumming on an alang-alang roof. Humidity fogs a cold lens the moment it leaves an air-conditioned room, and the light under the canopy changes from bright to dim in a few steps. What you get in return is atmosphere no coastal venue has — mist in the valley behind your vows, the green going deep and dark as the evening comes, lanterns along the steps. The film is planned around those conditions: where the microphones go, how the cameras acclimatise, which moments wait for which light.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Ubud look like?

01

The route

An hour before the ceremony the cameras are taken out of their bags and left in the open air to acclimatise, so they do not fog at the first frame. The videographer walks the ceremony space with your celebrant, listens to the river and the insects, and decides where to place lapel recorders on the groom and the celebrant and a backup recorder near the arch. During the 30 minutes we film the walk down to the deck, the vows from two angles, the rings in close-up and the first kiss, then take you aside for a few minutes of slow, cinematic shots at the edge of the valley while guests congratulate each other. With extra hours the film opens with preparations in the villa and continues into the reception — speeches recorded from the mixer if there is one, the first dance under the lights, sparklers or lanterns on the steps at the end.

02

The timing

For film, the best Ubud ceremony starts around 3:30–4:00 pm in the dry season, April to October: soft light, mist sometimes starting to form in the valley, and the evening insects not yet at full volume during the vows. Later than that, the sun drops behind the valley wall early and the cicadas can compete with your voices. In the wet season, November to March, a morning ceremony is the safer choice for both weather and sound, because heavy rain on a thatched or tin roof drowns out speech. The teaser follows within a week of the wedding; the full film takes 4–6 weeks.

FAQ — Wedding film in Ubud

Will the river or the insects drown out our vows?

No, because the vows are not recorded with the camera microphone. Small lapel recorders sit a few centimetres from your mouths and pick up your voices over the river. Some ambient sound stays in the mix on purpose — it is part of where you married — but it sits underneath. We test levels before guests are seated.

What happens to the film if it rains during the ceremony?

The covered backup your planner agrees with the venue becomes the set, and we scout it the same morning so it is lit and mic’d too. Rain itself can be beautiful on film — drops on leaves, umbrellas on the steps — but loud rain on the roof is a sound problem, so we move the recorder closer and keep the vows tight.

Can the film include drone shots over the valley?

Often, yes — book the Drone video alongside the film. Ubud venues are far from the airport’s restricted airspace, so the question is the venue’s own policy and the canopy: a clear launch point is needed, and the drone never flies over guests during the ceremony. Aerials are usually filmed before guests arrive and during portraits.

Our reception goes on after dark. Will the jungle be too dark to film?

It gets dark early and completely in the valley, so lighting matters. We talk to your planner about festoon lights, lanterns and candles early, since they look far better on film than one floodlight, and add a little soft light of our own where needed. The darkness becomes the backdrop rather than a problem.
