Why here

Why choose Holiday photoshoot in Nusa Penida?

The holiday shoot is the one for people who are already on Nusa Penida and do not want to spend another morning in a car. Most stays on the island string along the north coast — Toya Pakeh, Ped, Sampalan — with Crystal Bay out on the west, and that coast is nothing like the cliffs on postcards. It faces Bali: fishing boats pulled up on grey-gold sand, low walls and frangipani, small temples, and on a clear day the cone of Mount Agung floating above the strait. It is the quiet, lived-in side of Penida, and photographs from it look like a holiday rather than a checklist. Being thirty minutes near where you stay, it is also the cheapest way to have a photographer on the island, and the natural choice if the famous viewpoints already feel like too much driving.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Nusa Penida look like?

01

The route

The photographer meets you at your guesthouse, and the first frames are often right there: the gate, the garden, the steps down to the road. From there we walk to the nearest stretch of beach, where the outrigger boats are pulled up on the sand and there is open water between you and Bali. Ten minutes on the beach go on relaxed portraits and walking shots along the waterline, with Agung behind you if the sky has stayed clear; then we head back through the lane, past offerings on the doorsteps and a shrine or two, for warmer frames in the shade. If you are staying near Crystal Bay instead, the beach is the whole session: the moored boats, the small rocky island in the bay and, in the evening, the sun going down straight ahead.

02

The timing

On the north coast the best light is at either end of the day. Early morning, roughly 6:30 to 8, is when Agung is most likely to show clearly across the strait — by late morning it usually hides in cloud. Late afternoon gives warm side light along the beach and softer heat, and on the west-facing sand at Crystal Bay it ends in a proper sunset. The dry months, April to October, give the clearest views of the volcano; in the wet season, November to March, mornings are still often clear, but afternoon storms build quickly, so we lean towards the early slot. Low tide adds a wide, reflective strip of wet sand in front of the boats.

FAQ — Holiday photoshoot in Nusa Penida

Do we pay for the photographer’s boat to Penida?

When the photographer crosses from Bali for your shoot, yes: the island-transfer add-on at $90 covers the photographer’s fast boat and private car on the island, and the session time is fitted around the boats. It is the only extra on top of the $130 — you are already on Penida, so there are no tickets of your own to buy.

We are staying on Nusa Lembongan. Does this work there too?

Yes, Lembongan and Ceningan are part of the area we cover. The holiday shoot there runs the same way — near where you stay — with the mangroves, the beaches in front of the guesthouses or the yellow suspension bridge to Ceningan as backdrops. The famous Penida cliffs are a separate short boat ride across the channel, which this package does not include.

Can we get the famous cliffs in our holiday photos?

Not within this package: the cliffs are 40 minutes to well over an hour from the north-coast villages on slow roads. Either book the Bali photoshoot, which is built around one of the viewpoints, or add an extra hour ($100) to this one so the drive fits. Many guests do the opposite — viewpoints on their own, the photoshoot by the guesthouse.

What should we wear for a beach shoot on the north coast?

Light, plain fabrics in white, sand, terracotta or a strong blue look good against the boats and the strait. The sand here is coarser and darker than on Bali’s south, so go barefoot or in simple flat sandals. If we pass a temple or a ceremony in the lane, shoulders covered is polite; we photograph offerings and shrines from the street, never inside.
