Why here
Why choose Drone photoshoot in Nusa Penida?
From the ground Nusa Penida is a handful of famous viewpoints shared with everyone else on the island; from the air it becomes a coastline of scale. A person on the Kelingking ridge is a dot on a dinosaur’s back, Broken Beach turns into a perfect ring of water under its arch, and the reef at Diamond Beach shows as bands of colour. That sense of scale is the whole point of this pairing, which is why the session is built around where the operator can fly safely and legally, not only around where the most popular photo is taken.
How the shoot is planned
What does the shoot in Nusa Penida look like?
01
The route
Thirty minutes covers one headland properly, so on the west coast we pick Kelingking or Broken Beach rather than racing between them. At Kelingking the drone launches from the clifftop clear of the crowd and climbs out over the water; we shoot you on the ridge path and at the viewpoint railing, then pull back and up for the frame that shows the whole headland and the beach below. At Broken Beach, about twenty minutes away, it is a top-down pass over the circular bay with you on the arch, then a lower orbit along the cliff edge. On the east coast the session moves to Diamond Beach instead, with the stairway, the sand and the sea stacks offshore.
02
The timing
Wind decides drone days on Penida more than light does. The dry season, roughly April to October, brings the clearest water but also the trade winds, which are often strongest on the exposed southern cliffs in the afternoon; early mornings are calmer for flying. In the wet season, November to March, mornings are usually clear and the sea can be glassy before storms build after lunch. Kelingking and Broken Beach face west and glow in late light, while Diamond Beach is a sunrise spot. If the wind is above safe limits the operator will ground the drone, so we keep a spare slot on the following day where possible.
What’s included
What does the package include?
The Drone photoshoot package in Nusa Penida covers: 15+ edited aerial photos; Top-down and wide frames of you in the landscape; Location checked against no-fly zones before the day; Directions on where to stand and how to lie for overhead frames; Private online gallery within 48–72 hours. Nothing is added to the price after the shoot. Permits worth knowing about: Kelingking Beach — small parking and entry fee; the descent to the beach is a steep, partly railed path of about an hour; Broken Beach & Angel's Billabong — small shared entry and parking fee; Angel's Billabong is closed to swimmers at high tide; Diamond Beach — small entry fee; stairs carved into the cliff, about 10 minutes down; Atuh Beach — small parking fee; sunbed rental from the warungs on the sand; Thousand Islands Viewpoint (Raja Lima) — small entry fee; the nearby tree house charges separately.
Drone flights in Indonesia are governed by national rules from the transport ministry, which set altitude limits and keep drones away from airports, crowds and sensitive sites. Penida is not a national park and is far from Bali’s airport, so flying at the main viewpoints is generally possible, but some are run by the local village and can restrict drones on busy days. Our operator follows those rules and the on-site guidance, and will not fly over temples or ceremonies.
02What does the drone shoot cost including the trip to the island?
The shoot itself is from $240 for 30 minutes and 15+ edited aerial photos. The $90 island-transfer add-on covers coordinating the fast boat from Bali and a private car on Penida, so you are not bargaining with drivers at the harbour. Not included: the fast-boat tickets, the island visitor levy and the small parking or entry fees at Kelingking, Broken Beach and Diamond Beach, all paid locally.
03What should we wear so we stand out from the air?
Solid, saturated colours read best from altitude: red, yellow, coral or crisp white against turquoise water and green cliffs. Avoid busy prints and khaki, which disappear into the grass and limestone. A long skirt or a scarf adds movement in the wind and gives the frame a shape. Wear shoes with grip for the cliff paths; the drone does not need you to stand on any edge, so there is no reason to take risks for a shot.
04Can we bring our own drone to Penida instead?
You can, but visitors’ drones in Indonesia are subject to registration and operating rules that are easy to get wrong, and a crash into the sea off Kelingking is a common end to a holiday drone. With our session the operator flies while the photographer directs you, which is what makes poses and timing work from the air. If you also want ground photos, ask about combining the drone shoot with a couple or flying dress session the same day.
