What it offers is a quieter, more editorial look: a flat beach where, at low tide, a thin film of water turns the sand into a mirror and doubles the sky; a sea temple’s stone walls a few metres away; and, inland in Umalas, the last rice-field lanes between villas. For couples who want engagement photos that look like a fashion story rather than a postcard, and who would rather not spend their pre-wedding day in a car, that is a real choice. How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Seminyak look like?

The route

For the base session we choose a date when low tide falls near sunset and meet on the beach north of Pura Petitenget about forty minutes before the sun goes down. The photographer works the reflection: the two of you walking across the wet sand with the sky mirrored at your feet, a long dress trailing in the film of water, silhouettes once the sun touches the horizon. With extra hours, the day starts earlier and inland. In the late afternoon we shoot the first look on a path through the Umalas paddies — whatever stage the rice is at that week — or among the plants and clean lines of your villa. You change at the villa or in the car, and we drive the fifteen to twenty minutes to the beach so the second look gets the sunset. Any entry fees for the chosen spots are listed before the day.

The timing

Two clocks matter here: sunset, between about 6 and 6:45 pm in Seminyak, and the tide. The mirror effect needs low water within an hour or so of sunset, which happens on a cycle of roughly two weeks, so a pre-wedding is best booked with some flexibility in the date. April to October gives clean evenings; in the wet season the sky is more dramatic but the beach can carry debris after storms, and we check it on the morning of the shoot. The rice in Umalas is on its own calendar, so it might be green, golden or just cut — we tell you what to expect a few days ahead.

Is Seminyak a good choice for pre-wedding photos, or should we go to Ubud or Uluwatu?

It depends on the look. Ubud gives jungle and terraces at sunrise; Uluwatu gives cliffs and ocean from above. Seminyak gives a calmer, fashion-style beach set with reflections and pastel skies, close to where most couples stay. If you are already in Seminyak and want two looks in one afternoon without a long drive, it is the practical choice.

Why does the pre-wedding gallery take 7 days?

Because these photos often end up on save-the-date cards, a welcome sign and a wedding website, so each one gets more retouching than a holiday set — skin, flyaway hair, stray footprints in the reflection. There is no express option for a pre-wedding; if you need a few images sooner for printing, tell us when you book.

Can we have hair and make-up done before the shoot?

Yes, for $90 the artist comes to your villa or hotel and stays to touch up between looks. On the beach, hair is the bigger challenge than make-up because of the onshore breeze, so a style that can move — loose waves, a low bun — photographs better than something rigid.

Can we add drone shots to a pre-wedding in Seminyak?

Not over Seminyak itself: the area lies in the safety zone of Ngurah Rai airport and the beach is busy at sunset. If aerial frames matter, we can move the second look further up the coast, outside the restricted zone, and add the drone ($150) there; we confirm the site before you pay.
