Why here

Why choose Honeymoon photoshoot in Yogyakarta?

Honeymooners who add Java to a Bali trip often skip the city and stay out by Borobudur instead, in hotels on the slopes of the Menoreh hills that look across a green plain to the temple, with Merapi and Merbabu standing behind it on a clear morning. That view is the setting for this session. It is a slower, quieter honeymoon than the beach: early mornings, a pool above the paddies, cycling through villages where the loudest sound is the call to prayer. The photos can stay entirely at your hotel — terrace, pool, the view — or go down into the rice fields and village lanes below. What this is not is a styled shoot on Borobudur itself: the monument has strict rules on its terraces, and the best view of it is from a distance anyway.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Yogyakarta look like?

01

The route

The hotel version starts at sunrise or in the late afternoon. In the morning we begin on your terrace as the mist lifts off the plain, with coffee, the two of you wrapped in a sarong against the cool air, and the temple a small grey shape in the distance — we use a long lens to bring it closer. Then the pool, if it faces the view, and a few frames walking through the garden. With an extra hour ($100) we go down into the villages: cycling side by side along a narrow road between paddies, the Menoreh ridge rising behind, stopping where a farmer’s hut or a line of coconut palms gives a natural frame. That version ends in the fields in the last light. If you have only one night here, we suggest the afternoon, so the morning stays free for the temple itself.

02

The timing

Around Borobudur, mornings win. From June to September there is a good chance of mist over the plain at dawn and a clear outline of Merapi and Merbabu, which usually disappears into cloud by nine. Afternoons are hazier but warmer in tone, and in the wet season, November to March, they often bring a storm around three or four o’clock — then we shoot the hotel under cover and step out when it clears. Sunrise in Java is around 5.15 to 5.45 am, an hour earlier by the clock than you may be used to from Bali. Borobudur is about an hour and a half from the city, so if you stay in Yogyakarta itself, an afternoon session is the gentler option.

FAQ — Honeymoon photoshoot in Yogyakarta

Will Borobudur actually be visible in the photos from our hotel?

From most hill hotels it is a few kilometres away, so in a wide frame it reads as a small shape on the plain rather than a backdrop. We shoot some frames with a long lens to bring the temple and the volcano closer behind you, and keep others wide for the feeling of space. Send us your hotel’s name and we will tell you honestly what the view gives.

Can we have honeymoon photos on Borobudur itself?

Casual photos in the temple grounds with your normal ticket, yes. The upper terraces are reached only in small guided groups on a timed, quota-limited ticket, and the stupas may not be touched or sat on; a professional session there needs written permission from the management. For a honeymoon, the grounds and the view from the hills are the realistic choice.

Does our hotel need to agree to an outside photographer?

Often it is just a courtesy, but some resorts around Borobudur have their own rules or a fee for outside photographers, especially at the pool and restaurant. Tell us where you are staying and we ask the hotel before your date, so nothing is decided at the reception desk on the day.

Can you add a reel of the honeymoon too?

Yes. A vertical reel of 15–30 seconds is a $110 add-on, filmed between the photos and delivered in 5–7 days. Cycling through the villages and the mist on the plain both move nicely on video. If you want a proper short film of the two of you, the couple video is the service for that.
