Villas and resorts are scattered along narrow roads between Jimbaran, Pecatu and Ungasan, and a drive that looks like ten minutes on the map can take thirty in the evening. A holiday photoshoot here is designed around that: we come to you and pick the nearest place that looks good, instead of hauling you across the peninsula. For guests in the Pecatu and Balangan area that is usually Balangan beach, a long strip of sand under a low cliff with fishing boats and surfers. For Jimbaran it is the bay itself. For a villa with a view, it may be your own terrace. The point is photographs of this holiday, not a day trip.
How the shoot is planned
What does the shoot in Uluwatu look like?

The route
Take a typical Balangan session. We meet at your place about an hour before sunset and drive the few minutes down to the beach. The first frames are on the path at the bottom, where the cliff wall and a line of thatched warungs give shade and a casual start. Then we walk south along the sand, away from the busy end: bare feet in the shallows, a stroll with the cliff glowing behind you, a sit on one of the old fishing boats if its owner is around to say yes. Balangan faces west, so the sun goes down straight ahead. If you are in Jimbaran instead, the same half hour is spent on the calm bay among the boats; if you stay in a cliff villa with a view, we may not leave it at all.

The timing
The last hour of light is the default, because both Balangan and Jimbaran face west and the sun sets over the water. Mornings are cooler and emptier, and they suit families or anyone flying out that evening, though the light comes from behind the land and is softer and flatter. The dry season, April to October, gives the most reliable sunsets but also bigger surf, so we stay on the sand rather than wading out. Between November and March, rain tends to come in the afternoon and clear by evening; if it does not, rescheduling to another day of your stay is free.

01Our villa is in Ungasan, far from any beach. What then?
Then the villa is often the better choice. Many Ungasan villas sit high on the plateau with a view to the sea, and a pool, a terrace and a sunset over the rooftops make a relaxed holiday set. If you want sand as well, an extra hour ($100) covers the drive down to a beach and back without rushing either half.
02How long does it take to get around the Bukit for a shoot?
Longer than the map suggests. The roads are narrow, shared with scooters and trucks, and they jam near Jimbaran and around the temple at sunset. That is why the 30-minute session stays close to you. Our travel within the Bukit is included in the price; we simply plan the meeting time so the light is not spent in traffic.
03Can friends or grandparents join the holiday shoot?
Yes, the price does not change with the size of a small group. In 30 minutes we can do a few group frames plus pairs and individual portraits. If the group is large or wants many combinations, add an extra hour ($100) so nobody feels rushed. Balangan’s flat beach access makes it easier for older relatives than the stair-only coves.
04We fly home tomorrow. Can we have the photos sooner?
Yes. The express add-on ($50) delivers the full edited gallery within 24 hours instead of 48–72, so it is waiting when you land. A morning session the day before departure works especially well with it. The gallery is online, so you can download it anywhere.
