Why here

Why choose Elopement photography in Uluwatu?

An elopement strips a wedding back to the vows, and Uluwatu suits that because the setting already does what decorations try to do. A clifftop above the Indian Ocean gives you an aisle with the horizon at the end of it; the beaches below give you somewhere to kick off your shoes once the formal part is over. Most elopements here are a short ceremony with a celebrant, perhaps a friend or two, then an unhurried walk through the best light of the day. The 30-minute starting coverage takes in the vows and portraits straight after; add extra hours ($100 each) and we can follow the whole story, from getting ready to the beach at sunset, without anyone checking the time.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Uluwatu look like?

01

The route

The 30-minute starting coverage is the vows and the portraits straight after. With extra hours, coverage starts earlier at your villa or hotel: the dress on its hanger, the rings, the last letter read in private, then a first look on a terrace before anyone else sees you. Around ninety minutes before sunset we move to the ceremony spot — a clifftop lawn or a small open-air venue above the ocean — and photograph the vows, the ring exchange and the first kiss from both sides of the aisle. Then the dress comes off the pedestal: we drive a few minutes to a beach below the cliffs for portraits in the surf, and finish on the rocks or back at the top as the sun touches the water. If there is a dinner for two afterwards, the first toast is the last frame.

02

The timing

Hold the ceremony in the last two hours before sunset: midday sun on white limestone is harsh, and it is hot for a suit. Dry-season months from April to October give the most reliable evenings, with July and August also the busiest for venues, so book those well ahead. In the wet season the mornings are usually clear and storms tend to arrive in the afternoon, which makes a morning elopement a sensible choice from December to February. Tides matter for the beach portraits; we check them before fixing the time and keep a cliff route if the sand is covered.

FAQ — Elopement photography in Uluwatu

Is an elopement in Uluwatu legally binding?

Usually not on its own. A legal marriage in Indonesia for foreign couples involves a religious ceremony, civil registration and paperwork from your home country, which takes weeks to arrange. Most couples who elope in Bali marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here with a celebrant. It looks and feels the same in photos. If you want the legal route, a licensed local planner handles it.

Do clifftop venues in Uluwatu charge extra?

Yes, almost always. Resort chapels and clifftop lawns charge a ceremony fee, and some hotels add an outside-vendor fee for photographers who are not on their list. Public clifftops and beaches are free or cost a small entry fee, but they offer no privacy or shade. None of these are included in the $890; we can share the venues we have worked at and what they asked recently.

Can we add video or a drone to the elopement?

Yes. A drone pass costs $150 and is flown away from temples and over spots where permission is clear; the cliffs and the coastline from above are the frames people remember. A vertical reel adds $110, and an extra hour of photography is $100 if you want the dinner covered too. A full couple film is a separate booking with its own videographer, so let us know early.

When do we receive the elopement photos?

A preview of edited photos arrives within 48 hours, usually while you are still on the island, so you can share the news the same week. The full gallery follows in two to three weeks, after colour work on every frame. There is no express option on an elopement: the 48-hour preview is the fast part.
