The route
The 30-minute coverage starts as the celebrant begins: the two of you under whatever the villa has — a frangipani tree, a simple arch, the pool behind you — the words, the rings, the first kiss, then portraits in the garden while you are still shaking a little. With extra hours we start earlier in separate rooms of the same villa: the dress, the letters, a first look on the terrace. After the vows we walk or drive five minutes to the beach. North of Pura Petitenget towards Batu Belig the sand is quiet enough that a wedding dress does not draw a crowd, and we photograph the two of you in the wash as the sun goes down, then a last frame in the blue light before the dinner you have booked.

The timing
Set the vows about an hour and a quarter before sunset, which in Seminyak falls between roughly 6 and 6:45 pm. The villa garden is in shade by then and the beach portraits land in the golden light. A morning elopement, around 8 am, also works well in a villa — cool, soft and quiet — though the beach part then becomes a bright midday walk rather than a sunset. April to October is the safe window; from November to March a villa with a covered bale or living room gives a plan B under cover. Avoid Nyepi, when even villa guests must stay inside and quiet for a day.

01Can we hold the ceremony on Seminyak beach itself?
A very small ceremony — the two of you and a celebrant standing on the sand — is usually possible, but anything with chairs, an arch or guests may need permission and a fee from the local village, and the beach is public, so passers-by are part of it. Most couples marry in the villa garden and use the beach for the portraits.
02Does the villa allow an elopement ceremony?
Ask before you book it. Many Seminyak villas are happy to host a ceremony for two, some charge an event fee, and a few do not allow events at all. 03Will our elopement be legally recognised?
Only if you go through Indonesia’s formal process, which combines a religious ceremony with civil registration and documents from home, and takes planning. Most couples who elope in Seminyak sign the papers at home and make the Bali ceremony a symbolic one. The photographs are the same either way.
04Can we get a short video of the elopement too?
The photographer can film one vertical reel of 15–30 seconds between frames for $110. For the vows with clean sound, book a wedding film from $1,490, where the videographer records your words on separate microphones. Drones are not flown in Seminyak, which sits inside the airport’s safety zone.
