Why here

Why choose Drone video in Uluwatu?

The Uluwatu coastline is a sequence, not a single view: headland, cove, reef, surf break, headland again, with the cliffs glowing in the evening light. A photograph picks one; a drone flying slowly along the edge shows how they connect, and that is what aerial video does better here than anywhere else in Bali. The stretch between Bingin and Padang Padang is the one we fly most: guesthouses stacked on the cliff, surfers in the line-up, waves peeling across the reef. Two limits shape every flight. We do not fly over Pura Luhur Uluwatu, and we do not fly on the Jimbaran side under the approach to Ngurah Rai airport. The western cliffs between those two points give more than enough for a film.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Uluwatu look like?

01

The route

The pilot launches from an open clifftop with a clear line of sight along the coast, about an hour before sunset. The 30 minutes are spent in planned passes rather than random flying: a slow reveal rising over the cliff edge to show the ocean, a long tracking shot following the coastline from Bingin towards Padang Padang, a top-down pass over the reef as a set of waves comes through, and an orbit around the headland as the light turns orange. If you want to appear in the film, you stand or walk at a marked point on the cliff or the beach and the drone pulls away from you. We keep a safe distance from surfers and never fly over groups on the beaches. The raw clips are delivered alongside the edit, ungraded, for your own use.

02

The timing

Golden hour is the reason to film this coast from the air, because the low sun turns the limestone gold and lights the wave faces from the side. Start about an hour before sunset and finish as the sun touches the water. Wind is the main limit: dry-season afternoons, from roughly June to September, can be too gusty near the cliff edge, and the pilot may move the flight to a calmer morning, when the light is cooler but the sea is often glassier. From November to March the air is lighter and skies more dramatic, with storms to work around. The big swell from April to October makes the most impressive surf footage.

FAQ — Drone video in Uluwatu

Can you film Uluwatu Temple from the air?

No. Drones are not allowed over the temple, and we keep a wide distance from it. The temple can appear at the edge of a frame from a long way off along the coast, but it will never be the subject of the flight. If the temple is central to what you want, a ground-level shoot on the cliff paths captures it properly.

What can we do with the raw clips?

Whatever you like for personal use: cut your own reels, drop shots into a holiday video, or give them to an editor later. They are delivered in 4K, ungraded, so they hold up to colour work. The edited 60–90 second film comes with licensed music and grading done for you.

Can the drone follow us on a scooter along the cliff roads?

Only on quiet stretches and only in line of sight of the pilot, which on the Bukit’s narrow, busy roads rules out most of them. We prefer a short ride on a marked section of road near the take-off point, filmed from above and to the side, rather than chasing traffic. Safety on the road comes before the shot.

Can we add more flying time on the same evening?

Drone services do not take the extra-hour add-on: golden-hour light lasts about thirty minutes anyway, and that is what the session is built around. If you want a second set — a sunrise flight or a different stretch of coast — book a second session on another day. The island transfer ($90) is available if you also want Nusa Penida from the air.
