Why here

Why choose Drone video in Bali?

Aerial video asks more of a location than aerial photos do: it needs a line to follow, a reveal, or movement underneath — and calm enough air for smooth footage. Bali’s areas offer different kinds. The Bukit coastline gives long tracking shots along white cliffs with swell lines rolling into the reef. The Ubud terraces give slow pull-backs from a single figure to a whole curved valley, often with mist. The highlands near Munduk give the twin lakes and forested ridges, cool and calm early, under cloud by late morning. Canggu gives surf, fields and a coastline that runs north towards Tanah Lot. Nusa Penida gives the most dramatic cliffs on the islands. All of these sit outside the airport’s restricted zone; temples, Tanah Lot included, are only flown with permission, and we keep clear of them.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Bali look like?

01

The route

Each area gets its own flight plan, agreed before the day. On the Bukit the pilot opens with a low run along the cliff face, rises over the edge to reveal the ocean and the reef, and finishes with a slow orbit around you on a ledge or beach as the sun goes down. Over the Ubud terraces the sequence is a top-down drift across the paddies, a pull-back from you on a ridge to the full valley, and a low pass through the mist before the sun burns it off. In the highlands we leave the south in the dark — the twin lakes above Munduk are around two and a half hours away — and fly the lakes and ridges while the air is still. Along the Canggu coast it is surf lines, fields and the coastline towards Tanah Lot, flown from outside the temple area. Thirty minutes of flying covers one area well; a second area is a second session.

02

The timing

For smooth footage, calm air matters as much as light. Sunrise is the calmest time everywhere and the only reliable window in the highlands, which cloud over by late morning. The Bukit and Canggu coasts are best in the last hour before sunset, when the light is low and warm, but the dry-season trade winds, roughly April to October, can be strong on exposed cliffs — we judge on the day whether it is safe. Midday heat haze flattens distant views. From November to March, mornings are clearer than afternoons, and storms and low cloud cancel more flights, so we plan a backup slot; a weather reschedule is free.

FAQ — Drone video in Bali

Can you fly at Tanah Lot or Ulun Danu Beratan?

Not over the temples. Ulun Danu Beratan does not allow drones over the grounds, and Tanah Lot is an active temple where we keep clear. We can fly the coastline or the lake well away from them, where permitted, and use ground footage for the temples themselves. If the temple is the point of the film, a ground videographer is the better booking.

Can we get footage from two areas in one booking?

Not in a single 30-minute session: drone bookings do not take an extra hour, and the areas are an hour or more apart with different best light. Book two sessions — the Ubud terraces one sunrise, the Bukit coast another sunset — and you get two edited films plus both sets of raw clips to cut together if you like.

What can we do with the raw clips?

Anything you like: cut your own reels, add them to a longer trip film, or pass them to an editor later. They are every usable shot from the flight in 4K, ungraded, usually several minutes beyond what goes into the 60–90 second edit. From a Bali session that often means spare passes over the same coastline at slightly different heights and moments of light.

Do you fly in West Bali National Park?

Only with a permit from the park authority, applied for in advance and paid separately, and the far west is a long drive from most hotels. For most people the Bukit, Ubud, the highland lakes or Nusa Penida give stronger footage for far less effort. If the park is important to you, tell us early so we can check the current rules.
