Drone photoshoot · Seminyak

In short

A drone photoshoot for guests staying in Seminyak costs from $240 for 30 minutes and 15+ edited aerial photos within 48–72 hours. Because Seminyak sits in the airport’s safety zone, the flight takes place outside it, usually on the coast around Pererenan or Seseh. The pilot confirms the site against no-fly rules before you pay.

Why here

Why choose Drone photoshoot in Seminyak?

The honest starting point: a drone usually cannot fly over Seminyak. The whole area lies within the safety zone around Ngurah Rai airport, a few kilometres to the south, and the beach at sunset is full of people the drone would have to pass over. So this page is for people who are staying in Seminyak and want aerial photos, not for aerial photos of Seminyak. What works is to plan the flight a short drive away, outside the zone, on a stretch of coast where the pilot can legally take off — most often the black-sand beaches north of Canggu, around Pererenan and Seseh, where river mouths, surf lines and rice fields running to the sea look striking from above. You leave from your Seminyak villa and come back the same evening.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Seminyak look like?

01

The route

When you book, the pilot proposes a site and sends you a map pin, with the travel from Seminyak agreed in the quote so nothing is added later. The drive north along the coast roads takes roughly half an hour to an hour, depending on traffic. On arrival the pilot checks wind and people on the beach, then briefs you from the ground: where to stand, how to lie on the sand for a top-down frame, which way to walk so your footprints draw a line. The 30 minutes in the air move from high, wide frames — you as a small figure between the surf and the black sand — to lower passes along the waterline as the waves wash around you, and finish with the low sun throwing your shadow long across the beach.

02

The timing

Aim for the last hour and a half before sunset — between about 6 and 6:45 pm on this coast — and leave Seminyak early, because the roads north are slow in the late afternoon. Long shadows make sand, surf and figures look three-dimensional from above, while midday light is flat. Mornings from 7 am are calmer and emptier, which suits top-down frames on a clean beach. From April to October there are more flyable days; in the wet season the pilot watches the wind and rain closely, and a backup date is pencilled in at booking because the drone does not take off in rain.

FAQ — Drone photoshoot in Seminyak

Why can’t the drone fly over Seminyak beach?

Two reasons. Indonesian rules restrict drones within the safety zone around airports, and Seminyak is close enough to Ngurah Rai to fall inside it. Separately, the beach at sunset is crowded, and flying over people is not allowed or safe. A pilot who offers to fly there anyway is taking a risk with your shoot and their licence.

Can we combine the drone shoot with a ground photoshoot in Seminyak?

Yes, as two separate bookings: the ground session on Petitenget or Batu Belig beach on one evening, the drone flight up the coast on another. Or book the ground photoshoot at the flight site and add the drone there for $150 — one trip, both sets of photos, and the drone is only up where it is allowed.

What should we wear for photos from above?

Solid, saturated colours: red, yellow, white or bright blue stand out against black sand and grey-green surf. Avoid small patterns, which turn into noise from fifty metres up, and dark clothes that disappear on dark sand. A long skirt or a beach towel in a bold colour gives the top-down frames a shape.

Do we get video from the flight too?

No — the drone photoshoot is photographs only, 15+ edited aerial stills. For moving footage, the drone video service from $320 gives a 60–90 second edited film plus the raw clips. The two can be flown at the same site on the same day if you book both.
