The route
With a full day booked through extra hours, it often begins in the morning with the akad nikah at a mosque or the family home, or a church blessing, where we work quietly from the side and keep the camera down during prayers. After a break for the bride’s make-up artist to finish the paes, the panggih takes place at the venue entrance or in the hall: we position one angle facing the couple for the betel-leaf throw and the egg, and move behind the parents for the procession to the stage. The sungkeman follows, close and unhurried. Couple portraits fit in the garden while guests are seated, and the reception is a long receiving line on the decorated stage, with guests coming up in groups — we photograph each one, so agree beforehand which families and friends matter most. Thirty minutes covers one of these blocks; most families book the day.
