Why here

Why choose Destination wedding photographer in Labuan Bajo?

A wedding with guests in Labuan Bajo is a different undertaking from one in Bali, and it is fair to say so up front. Every guest flies in, usually from Bali or Jakarta, on a handful of daily flights. Hotel rooms are fewer and book out early in July, August and the end of the year. Florists, sound and décor often travel in from Bali too. What you get for that effort is a ceremony nobody else has had: vows on a lawn or terrace on the hillside above the bay, facing west over a scatter of islands as the sun goes down, and a guest list that has spent the previous day on a phinisi among them. Our base coverage is thirty minutes around the ceremony — the vows and your first portraits as a married couple. Everything else, from preparations to the first dance and a guests’ boat day, is booked in extra hours.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Labuan Bajo look like?

01

The route

The thirty minutes are built around the moment the light and the vows line up. We arrive well before, walk the ceremony space with your planner, and choose where to stand so the islands sit behind the arch rather than behind the guests’ heads. Coverage starts with the guests seated and the bay behind them, then the walk down the aisle, shot from the front and from the side so both the entrance and the view are kept. During the vows the camera stays low and quiet; the rings, the kiss and the first walk back up the aisle follow. Then the two of you step away from the guests for ten minutes at the edge of the lawn or terrace, where the hillside drops towards the water, for the first portraits while the sun sits just above the horizon. With extra hours, we cover the getting-ready at your hotel, family groups in the afterglow, and the reception into the evening.

02

The timing

Most hillside venues here face west, so schedule the vows about an hour before sunset — around 4:50–5:20 pm depending on the month — and the portraits will land in the last warm light. The dry season, April to November, is the safe window for an outdoor ceremony; September to November adds calmer seas for a guests’ boat day and fewer competing events. July and August are the busiest and windiest months, which matters for décor, veils and microphones on an open terrace. Between December and March, afternoon squalls are common and boat days for guests may be cancelled, so agree a covered alternative with the venue. Ask guests to arrive at least two days before: flight delays from Bali are common, and nobody wants to miss the ceremony over one.

FAQ — Destination wedding photographer in Labuan Bajo

Is Labuan Bajo realistic for a wedding with fifty guests?

Yes, with planning. A few hillside hotels and resorts host weddings of that size, but rooms and flights fill early in high season, so lock both in nine to twelve months ahead. Work with a planner who has done weddings here, because most vendors are booked from Bali and their travel is part of the budget. Coverage beyond the ceremony is extra hours.

Can we have a church wedding on Flores?

Flores is largely Catholic, and some couples do marry in a church near Labuan Bajo. It requires paperwork through your home parish and the local one, arranged months ahead, and the priest decides what may be photographed during Mass. Your planner handles the parish; we follow the priest’s rules, shoot without flash and keep to the side aisles.

Does our hotel charge for an outside photographer?

Some venues charge an outside-vendor fee, set by the venue rather than by us, and not included in our price. Ask for the vendor policy when you book the venue and forward it to us. If you add hours for a full day, the photographer’s meal is usually arranged by your planner with the venue.

Can you photograph a boat day with our guests?

Yes, booked as extra hours at $100 each, with the photographer’s seat on the boat quoted in advance and park fees paid like any visitor’s. A guests’ day to Padar, Pink Beach and Kanawa makes a lively second gallery. Keep it the day before the wedding rather than the day after, when everyone is tired and sunburnt.
