The route
We meet on the waterfront about fifty minutes before sunset, at a café you pick or your hotel lobby, and walk the first few minutes along the harbour edge while you get used to the camera; the masts of the phinisi behind you make an easy, honest first frame. Then a short ride up to a hillside viewpoint such as Amelia Sea View, which looks straight down on the harbour and out to the islands. The half hour is spent there: standing portraits with the boats below, sitting on the slope with your knees up, a few frames walking towards the edge, then the sunset itself, with you as a silhouette against the sky and the bay. Afterwards the evening is yours — the night seafood stalls at Kampung Ujung are a ten-minute ride down, and that is dinner, not part of the shoot. If you would rather keep it close, the harbour front alone works for the whole session.
