Plenty of people who type “Bali photoshoot” are not on Bali at all by the time they book: the trip started in Seminyak and has drifted east across the strait. The route
Which landmark depends on where you sleep, because Lombok is wider than it looks and we do not spend your thirty minutes on a highway. For guests in Senggigi it is Pura Batu Bolong: we meet at the gate around 5.15 pm, borrow sashes, and work the outer rocks and the steps rather than the shrine itself, which stays for worshippers. As the sun drops the strait turns copper behind you, and on a clear evening Mount Agung’s cone appears on the horizon — Bali in the frame, seen from the other side. Guests on the south coast get Selong Belanak instead: the overlook on the western headland first, then down to the sand. With an extra hour ($100) the Senggigi route continues to the Malimbu viewpoint for the blue hour.

The timing
Lombok’s west coast faces the sunset, which makes Batu Bolong an evening shoot: start in the last three quarters of an hour of daylight, roughly 5.15 to 6 pm in WITA time, the same clock as Bali. Agung is most often visible from May to September, when the air is dry; in the wet season, November to March, haze and cloud usually hide it, and storms can cut the evening short, so we keep a sunrise slot on the south coast as the fallback. The south-coast bays work in both directions — sunrise for calm water, late afternoon for warm hills. During Ramadan the temple is unaffected, but evening traffic around Mataram before the fast breaks is heavy; we leave earlier.

02Is Kuta Lombok the same as Kuta in Bali?
No, and it matters when you book. Kuta Lombok is a small surf town on the south coast, next to the Mandalika resort area, about 30 minutes from Lombok airport. Kuta Bali is the busy beach strip by Bali’s airport, on another island. Tell us which one your hotel is in; a shoot booked for the wrong Kuta means a sea crossing.
03What should we wear at Batu Bolong temple?
Covered shoulders and a sarong or long skirt; sashes and sarongs are usually lent at the entrance for a small donation. Women who are menstruating traditionally do not enter Balinese temple grounds, and we respect that by shooting on the outer rocks. Light, long fabrics photograph beautifully against the sunset sea, and flat sandals are safer on the wet steps.
04Can the same photographer shoot us on Bali and then on Lombok?
Yes. Book the two sessions separately and add the island-transfer add-on ($90) to the Lombok one; it covers the photographer’s car and crossing, coordinated with your own travel. Your tickets and local entry fees stay separate. Leave at least one night between the two shoots, so a delayed boat or flight never eats the light.
