The route
The photographer meets you at the harbour before the boat leaves, around 4:00–4:30, and rides out with you. At Padar’s jetty the fees are paid and the climb starts in trainers; we do not shoot on the way up, because the first landing is where everyone stops to catch their breath and the frame there is the weakest. The half hour begins at the second or third landing, looking south: first the wide frame on a 16–24 mm lens with you small on the ridge, which is what gives the three bays their scale; then waist-up portraits with the curve of the beaches behind; then a slow walk along the ridge path for movement. If you want a change of top, there is room to step aside at the summit. When the first day-boat groups arrive, around 6:30, we turn the camera back down the ridge, where the path has already emptied. Pink Beach or Kanawa afterwards belong to your boat’s plan, not the session; photographs there need an extra hour at $100.
