The route

Each concept gets roughly ten minutes. The first is usually the ride: on Gili Air or Trawangan we pick a lane with palms overhead and no turns, you cycle towards and past the camera a few times, then we film details — the basket, the bell, sand on the tyres — for cutaways. The second is the water: wading in from the beach, the reveal of how clear it is from a low angle at the surface, a dive under and back up. The third follows the light, a golden-hour walk on the west coast or a short sequence on a moored boat. Between concepts we record clean natural sound so the versions without music still feel alive. With an extra hour ($100) a reel can be built around a second island or a snorkelling trip you already have booked.

The timing

Light for vertical video needs to be soft on faces and bright on water, which on the Gilis means two windows: from sunrise to about 8.30 am, when the east-coast water is glassy and nobody is in the background, and the last hour before sunset on the west coast, around 5 to 6.30 pm, when the colour is warm but the beach is busier. Midday makes the sea look its most turquoise but turns faces into squints, so we only use it for the underwater-surface shots. The dry season, April to October, gives the clearest water; after heavy rain in the wet season visibility drops for a day or two, so if a reel depends on clear water, keep a spare morning. A rough sea also cancels the boat concept, so we always have a dry-land alternative.

Can you film while I ride a bicycle without a vehicle to follow me?

Yes, and it looks better than a vehicle shot. The videographer uses a stabilised camera and films from a fixed point as you ride past, walks fast alongside for slower takes, or rides one-handed slightly ahead on a quiet lane. Several passes give enough angles to cut a smooth sequence. We choose a lane without traffic and keep clear of horse carts.

Do the reels include underwater shots with turtles?

Not as standard. Half-in, half-out shots at the surface and you swimming in clear shallow water are part of the water concept. Filming turtles needs time in the water and luck, and you should never chase or touch them. If it matters to you, tell us before the day and we will plan an extra hour around a spot where turtles are often seen.

Can I get the raw clips as well as the edited reels?

The package delivers the three edited reels, each with and without music, graded to match your feed. If you want to cut more clips yourself, ask when booking, and we will tell you what is possible for your shoot. Many creators find the music-free versions are what they need, since the platform’s trending audio can then go on top.

What does the reels shoot cost if we come over from Bali?

The shoot is from $220 for 30 minutes and 3 edited reels. If the videographer crosses from Bali or Lombok for your date, the island transfer is $90. Your boat tickets, bicycle rental and any swing or beach-bar fees are paid separately. Hair and make-up before the shoot is $90 if you want it.
