Why here

Why choose Drone photoshoot in Uluwatu?

From the ground the Bukit is about height; from the air it is about pattern. The reef flats below the cliffs turn into rings of turquoise, cream and dark green at low tide, waves draw white lines across them, and a person lying on the sand becomes a small, deliberate shape in a huge composition. That is the drone photoshoot here, and the best canvas for it is Nyang Nyang, a long, almost empty beach on the southern coast reached by a steep path from the clifftop. It is wide enough that there is nobody else in the frame, and it lies away from both the temple and the airport approach — the two places on the peninsula where a drone cannot go. We say plainly what that means: Uluwatu Temple and the Jimbaran side are not options for this shoot.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Uluwatu look like?

01

The route

You walk down the path to the beach with the photographer while the pilot sets up at the bottom, where the drone can be kept in sight along the whole bay. We start with the classic top-down frames on the dry sand: lying in a star shape, walking a line along the water’s edge, a long dress or a towel spread out to add colour. Then the drone rises for wide frames that show the beach, the reef and the cliff wall together, with you as a dot of colour for scale. If the tide is low enough, we move onto the sand bars between the channels, where the patterns are strongest. We direct you by phone and hand signals, because from fifty metres up nobody can hear a thing.

02

The timing

Low tide decides the day, and good light decides the hour. Mid-morning, from about 8 to 10 am, is best for aerial colour: the sun is high enough to light the water from above and make the reef glow, but not so high that it flattens everything. Calmer air in the morning also matters — the dry-season trade wind on the Bukit can rise past the limit for a safe flight by afternoon. April to October gives the clearest water; from November to March runoff after heavy rain can cloud the sea for a day or two, so we keep a backup date.

FAQ — Drone photoshoot in Uluwatu

Why can’t you fly the drone at Uluwatu Temple?

Because the temple does not allow drones over it, and we would not fly over a place of worship without permission in any case. From the air you also lose what makes the temple special, its position on the edge. If you want the temple in your photos, a ground-level Bali photoshoot on the cliff paths is the better booking.

Can we combine the drone shoot with a photographer on the ground?

Yes, but the cheaper way round is usually to book a photo session and add the drone add-on for $150. The drone photoshoot is for people who want the aerial frames as the main event, all 15+ of them from above. If you want both in depth, book the two services for the same slot.

Is the walk down to Nyang Nyang difficult?

It is a steep path with steps, and coming back up in the heat is the real effort, so wear proper shoes and carry water. That effort is what keeps the beach empty. If walking is a problem, we choose another flyable spot on the Bukit with road access and adjust the plan; the frames will be different but just as clean.

What happens if it is too windy to fly?

The pilot makes that call on the spot, and safety wins over the schedule. Light wind is fine; strong gusts near the cliffs are not. If we cannot fly, the session moves to another morning of your stay at no cost. That is why we suggest booking early in your trip rather than on the last day.
