Why choose Couple photoshoot in Bali?
Each part of Bali gives a couple session a different temperament, and it helps to choose that before choosing a spot. The Bukit is big and open: limestone, ocean and a sunset that drops straight into the sea, with coves below that depend on the tide. Ubud is close and green: mist in the valleys at sunrise, palms, field paths where you can walk side by side without anyone around. Canggu is casual: black sand, surfers, scooters on the paddy lanes, a beach bar in the background. Further out, the Sidemen valley is a quieter Ubud with Mount Agung over the rice, and Nusa Penida is drama with a boat attached. Most couples on a week-long trip have one of these on their doorstep. The best session is the temperament you like, reachable in the right light from where you sleep.

What does the shoot in Bali look like?

The route
A Bukit evening starts at the top of a beach road such as Melasti, uses the cut limestone walls for the first relaxed frames, then goes down to the sand if the tide is out and finishes at the waterline as the sun sets. An Ubud morning is a walk: a field path above Penestanan or Sayan before the heat, palms against the first light, a warung step for a coffee frame. A Canggu evening runs from a paddy lane through to Batu Bolong or Pererenan, with scooters, surfboards and the beach crowd as part of the picture. For Sidemen, about an hour east of Ubud, we go at sunrise for Agung over the terraces, on a morning you can give to the drive. With an extra hour ($100) any of these gains a second spot nearby or a change of outfit; a second area is a second session.

The timing
Match the region to its hour: the Bukit and Canggu face west and are best in the last hour before sunset; Ubud and Sidemen are best from sunrise to about eight, before haze and tour groups. From April to October, south-coast evenings are the most dependable in Bali and Agung is usually clear early in the east. From November to March, Ubud and the hills see more rain than the Bukit, mornings are clearer than evenings everywhere, and we keep a second slot in reserve, moved free if a storm takes the first. Tides decide which Bukit beaches are open on your date, so we check them before fixing the evening.

01We split our stay between Ubud and Uluwatu. Where should we shoot?
If you want one session, decide between mist and greenery or ocean and sunset — both are excellent, just different. If you want both, book two 30-minute sessions, one in each half of the trip, rather than one session with a two-hour drive in the middle. That costs about the same as a single session with extra hours and gives you two full galleries.
02Tegallalang or somewhere quieter?
For a couple, usually somewhere quieter. Tegallalang is the famous view but it fills with visitors and swing queues from mid-morning, and there are entry and path donations. The fields around Penestanan and Sayan, or the bigger, emptier terraces at Jatiluwih for those willing to drive, give you the same green with no one walking through your frames.
03Is Nusa Penida worth it for a couple shoot?
If you are already going, yes — Kelingking and Diamond Beach are unlike anything on the mainland. As a trip just for the shoot it is a long day: an early fast boat from Sanur, rough roads and fenced viewpoints with queues. It adds the $90 island transfer for the photographer and your own boat tickets, so most couples keep the session on Bali.
04Which area is safest from rain in the wet season?
The Bukit is the driest part of the south, and mornings are clearer than evenings everywhere from November to March. Ubud and the highlands get the most rain, though a sunrise there is still usually dry. Whatever the area, a rescheduling because of weather is free, so leave one spare morning or evening in your plan.
