Why here

Why choose Drone video in Jakarta?

The aerial shot of Jakarta everyone has seen — a slow push past the towers of Sudirman at blue hour, Monas lit in the distance — is almost always filmed under special permission, from a helicopter, or illegally. For a private client, central Jakarta is restricted airspace: the presidential palace and Monas, government districts and the approach corridors of two airports. We would rather say that on this page than accept a booking and cancel later. What a drone video realistically means here is footage away from the centre. On the Thousand Islands, a drone following a boat across clear water or rising from a sandbar to reveal a ring of reef is exactly what aerial film is for. On the mainland, some open coastal or private sites outside the restricted zones may be possible after a check of the coordinates and the owner’s consent. Each request starts with that check.

How the shoot is planned

What does the shoot in Jakarta look like?

01

The route

An island session is flown in a few short flights rather than one long one, each built for a specific shot. The first follows your boat as it approaches the island, low over the water, then rises to show the island in its ring of reef. The second is on land: a slow reveal from the jetty or the beach, pulling back and up from you to the whole island and the open sea. The third is the one that needs patience — a top-down pass over the shallows with you swimming or walking, flown in a straight line so the edit can play it at different speeds. Between flights the pilot checks battery, wind and the area for people, and shows you the footage on the controller so we can repeat what did not work. The raw clips from all flights come with the edit, so you can cut your own versions later.

02

The timing

Early morning and late afternoon give the most cinematic aerials here: low sun throws long shadows from boats and palms and warms the sand, while the water still shows its colour. Around midday the shallows are most turquoise, which suits straight top-down passes. On the islands, the realistic windows are around 8:00 to 10:00 after the morning boat and 15:30 to 17:30 before the return, with sunset near 18:00 all year. May to October brings calmer seas and lighter winds; the north-west monsoon, roughly December to February, makes crossings rough and flying conditions gusty, and boats can be cancelled. Haze from the city rarely reaches the outer islands, but it does soften any mainland coastal footage in the dry months.

FAQ — Drone video in Jakarta

Can you film the Jakarta skyline from a drone with a permit?

For a private shoot, realistically no. Permission over the palace and Monas area is essentially reserved for official purposes, and flights in airport safety zones need approvals that a short private session cannot justify or obtain in time. For skyline footage, we film from a rooftop or a high floor instead, which gives a steady, legal view of the towers.

What are the raw 4K clips for?

They let you cut your own versions: a vertical reel for social media, a longer sequence for a family video, or a background loop for a website. The edited 60–90 second film is the finished piece; the raw clips are every usable take from the flights, ungraded and unedited, delivered alongside it in 5–7 days.

How do we get to the Thousand Islands for the shoot?

Boats leave from harbours on Jakarta’s north coast in the morning, and the crossing takes from about one to a few hours depending on the island and the boat. Many visitors take a resort package that includes the transfer. The pilot needs a seat on the same boat or a separate crossing, which we quote in advance. Plan to stay overnight if you want both morning and evening light.

What happens if the wind is too strong on the day?

The pilot decides on site and will not fly in gusts over open water, where a lost drone is also a hazard to boats. We first try a sheltered side of the island or wait for a lull; if conditions stay unsafe, we move the flight to your spare day or reschedule without charge. That is why we ask island clients to keep some flexibility.
