A drone photoshoot in the Jakarta area costs from $240 for 30 minutes of flying where the airspace allows — the Thousand Islands or open coastal sites, not central Jakarta. You receive 15+ edited aerial photos, top-down and wide, within 48–72 hours. Boat transport and any permit fees are extra; we confirm the site is flyable before you book.

Why here
Why choose Drone photoshoot in Jakarta?
Most people who search for a drone photoshoot in Jakarta imagine themselves on a rooftop with the towers of Sudirman below. That picture is, for the most part, not legally possible. Central Jakarta contains the presidential palace, Monas and government districts, which are restricted airspace, and the approach paths to Soekarno-Hatta in the west and Halim in the east cover much of what is left. Flights outside those zones still need to follow Indonesian drone rules and the landowner’s permission. So this page is honest about what is actually on offer. Aerial portraits work on the Thousand Islands, where white sand, shallow reefs and boats make the classic top-down frames, and potentially at coastal or open sites outside the restricted zones once we have checked the exact coordinates. For a skyline with you in it, a rooftop photo session is the better, legal answer.
How the shoot is planned
What does the shoot in Jakarta look like?
01
The route
On a Thousand Islands day, the 30 minutes are spent where the water is clearest and the sand brightest, usually on the island you are visiting or a sandbar nearby. We start low and wide: you walking along the waterline, the boat pulled up on the beach, the colour change from turquoise shallows to deep blue. Then the drone climbs for the top-down frames that only work from above — lying on the sand in a shape you choose, floating on your back in the shallows, two figures on the end of a jetty. The pilot directs you by radio or phone and shows you each frame on the controller screen between flights, so you can adjust. Everything is planned around the pilot’s checks of wind, airspace and the island’s rules on the day, and nothing is flown over other visitors or resort guests without consent.
02
The timing
Aerial portraits over water need the sun high enough to light the shallows — roughly 8:00 to 10:00 — or the softer, warmer light of late afternoon, around 15:30 to 17:30, before the sun sets close to 18:00. Midday gives the strongest turquoise but harsh shadows on people. Boats to the islands leave early in the morning, so the session is usually mid-morning on arrival or late afternoon before the return. The calmer seas of the dry season, roughly May to October, are the reliable months; from December to February the north-west monsoon brings wind and rougher crossings, and boats can be cancelled. The pilot will not fly in strong gusts over open water, so keep a spare day if the aerials matter.
What’s included
What does the package include?
The Drone photoshoot package in Jakarta covers: 15+ edited aerial photos; Top-down and wide frames of you in the landscape; Location checked against no-fly zones before the day; Directions on where to stand and how to lie for overhead frames; Private online gallery within 48–72 hours. Nothing is added to the price after the shoot. Permits worth knowing about: Fatahillah Square, Kota Tua — square free; museum interiors ticketed; styled or commercial shoots may need a permit from the Kota Tua management; Monas (National Monument) — park free; ticket for the observation deck; drones prohibited — the presidential palace is next door; Sudirman–Thamrin skyline and pedestrian bridges — public bridges and pavements free; tripods can draw security questions; rooftops only via a hotel or bar booking; Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) — public streets free; parking charges at the waterfront areas; private developments may ask for a permit.
Because most of central Jakarta is restricted airspace. The area around the presidential palace and Monas is prohibited, government and security sites have their own restrictions, and the safety zones around Soekarno-Hatta and Halim airports extend across large parts of the city. Commercial flights also require permits under Indonesian aviation rules. We do not fly where it is not allowed, whatever the request.
02What does a Thousand Islands drone shoot cost in total?
The session is from $240 for 30 minutes and 15+ edited aerial photos. On top of that come your own boat, the pilot’s seat on it, island entry or harbour fees and any drone permit — all quoted before you book, not on the day. Drone sessions are not extended with extra hours; a second site is quoted as a separate session.
03Is there anywhere on the mainland you can fly?
Sometimes. Parts of the north coast and open sites outside the airport zones can be possible, but much of the coast west of the centre, including around PIK, sits near the Soekarno-Hatta approach. We check the exact coordinates against current restrictions and need the landowner’s consent. If a site is not flyable, we tell you before you book and suggest a ground-level alternative.
04What should we wear for aerial photos over water and sand?
Strong, solid colours read best from above: red, yellow, orange or white against turquoise water and pale sand. A flowing dress or sarong spreads into a clear shape when you lie down. Avoid blue and green swimwear, which disappears into the sea, and small prints, which turn to noise at height. Bring water shoes for coral and a hat for between flights.
