## In short

Reels and TikTok filming on Nusa Penida costs from $220 for 30 minutes of vertical filming, edited into three reels of 15–30 seconds each, delivered in 5–7 days with and without music. We usually film at Kelingking after 4 pm. The videographer’s fast boat and car are the $90 island-transfer add-on.

Nusa Penida is built for vertical video in a way few places are. The landscape reveals itself: you walk along a dusty path between stalls, round a corner, and the ground simply stops above a turquoise bay hundreds of metres below. That moment of reveal is exactly what holds a viewer past the first second, and Kelingking does it better than anywhere on the island. The difficulty is that thousands of phones film the same walk every day, mostly at midday, mostly with the same shaky pan. Three reels from one half hour work here because the spot offers three distinct ideas in a few metres — the reveal, the transition and the wind — and because the session is placed in the late-afternoon window, when the platform empties and the light turns from flat white to gold.

## How the shoot is planned

The three concepts are agreed before the day, so on location nothing is improvised. Reel one is the reveal: we walk the last stretch of path from behind you on a gimbal, timed so the headland opens up as you step to the railing — usually three or four takes, waiting for gaps in the people. Reel two is a transition: the same move filmed in two outfits, or a jump cut from the car park to the edge, matched so the cut lands on a step or a turn of the head. Reel three is the wind: slow-motion hair and fabric on the ridge path with the headland behind, plus close cut-aways — hands on the railing, feet in the dust, the beach far below — that give the edit its rhythm. With an extra hour, a second spot on the west coast adds variety.

## Timing

After about 4 pm is the reels window at Kelingking: the tour groups are leaving, the railing is free for several seconds at a time, and the low sun backlights hair and fabric — the thing slow motion needs. The headland itself goes into shadow, but the sea stays bright, which reads well on a phone screen. Early morning is the alternative if you sleep on the island. The dry season, April to October, brings the most saturated water and the steadiest breeze, while in the wet season, November to March, haze and afternoon storms make the late slot less reliable, so we may switch to the morning. Plan the boat back accordingly, or stay the night.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we use trending audio on the reels?

You get each reel in two versions: with licensed music and without. Trending sounds inside Instagram or TikTok are licensed for use on those platforms, so the usual approach is to upload the silent version and add the sound in the app. The cuts are timed to a beat, so a track at a similar tempo slots in cleanly.

### Will the wind ruin the sound?

On the Kelingking ridge, live sound is mostly wind, so these reels are built on music and visuals rather than speech. If you want to talk to camera, we record a short piece in a sheltered spot by the car park with a clip-on microphone, or you record a voice-over later and we cut to it.

### Can you film with a drone for the reels?

Not within this service: the reels are filmed on the ground with a gimbal, and the drone add-on is only offered with photo shoots. If aerials matter, book a drone video for the same trip — it gives a 60–90 second aerial edit plus the raw 4K clips, which you can cut into your own verticals.

### Do you film people other than us in the background?

We wait for gaps and frame around people wherever we can, which is why the late slot matters. At a public viewpoint a stranger occasionally ends up in a wide shot; we choose takes where they are small or out of focus, and we never use a recognisable face as a feature of your reel.
