## In short

Reels and TikTok video in Labuan Bajo costs from $220 for 30 minutes of vertical filming, usually on your phinisi or a hill above the bay, and you receive 3 edited reels of 15–30 seconds each, colour-graded, with and without music, in 5–7 days. Boat costs are separate; drone footage is a separate booking.

The Labuan Bajo videos that travel are built on movement: the climb that reveals Padar’s three bays, the leap off a phinisi into clear water, the wake curving away from the stern, sails going up at dawn. A phone held at arm’s length catches none of that well, and a photographer grabbing clips between stills catches only some of it. This package is filming only — thirty minutes of vertical video planned as three separate reels, each with its own concept, opening hook and ending, agreed before the day. The boat is the natural set, because it gives three different scenes in one place without moving: the bow, the deck and the water. In town, a hill above the bay at sunset gives a slower, more cinematic reel. What it does not include is a drone — that is a separate booking here, for reasons of permits and airspace.

## How the shoot is planned

A typical boat plan gives ten minutes to each reel. Reel one, the arrival: you walk from the stern to the bow in one gimbal move, the camera rising past your shoulder as the islands open up ahead, finished with a slow turn back to camera. Reel two, the transition: three or four matching cuts — sunglasses on, hat off, an outfit swapped below deck — each landing on the same spot at the bow, timed so it can be cut to a beat. Reel three, the water: if the captain okays it, a jump from the side filmed twice, once from the upper deck and once from the swim ladder at water level, plus the slow-motion surface break as you come up. Every reel gets a few seconds of close detail — rope, teak, a splash — for the edit to breathe. On a hill instead, the three reels become a walk-up reveal, a sunset silhouette sequence and an afterglow mood piece.

## Timing

For water and colour, film the boat reels between about 9 and 11 am, when the sun is high enough to light up the shallows and the sea reads turquoise on a phone screen; the jump reel especially needs it. For mood and skin tones, the last forty minutes before sunset are better, and that is when hill reels are filmed — around 5:15–5:45 pm in Labuan Bajo, depending on the month. Wind matters more for video than for stills: in July and August it roars across microphones and makes hair whip across faces, so we plan these reels for music rather than natural sound. April to June and October to November give the calmest water and cleanest footage. In the wet season, overcast days give soft, even light that suits reels well, as long as the boat can sail.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you film underwater for the reels?

This package is filmed from the boat, the ladder and the jetty, not underwater. The surface shots — a jump, a dive in, coming up through the water — are what most reels use anyway. If you want proper underwater footage with mantas or reef, that is a job for a dive videographer on a dive boat, which we do not offer.

### Can drone shots go into the reels?

Not through this package: the drone add-on applies to photo sessions only. If aerial footage matters, book the Drone video shoot alongside, and we cut a few of its clips into your reels on request. Inside the national park the drone needs a park permit, so we check that before you book either.

### Do the reels come with trending audio?

Each reel is delivered in two versions: one cut to licensed music and one without music, so you can add a trending sound inside the app, where it stays licensed for the platform. Tell us the tempo of the track you plan to use and we cut the clean version to its beat.

### Can we film reels on Padar as well?

Yes, with an extra hour at $100, since the boat leg and the climb eat into thirty minutes. Padar suits one reel above all — the stairway climb that ends in the reveal of the three bays — filmed at first light before the crowds. The other two reels then happen on the boat later in the morning.
