## In short

A proposal photographer in Ubud costs from $290 for 30 minutes: we hide near your villa deck or a quiet rice-field spot, capture the question and the reaction, then shoot a relaxed couple session. You receive 15+ edited photos within 48–72 hours. Flowers, decoration and any villa set-up are arranged and paid separately.

On the coast a proposal photographer hides in plain sight among the sunset crowd and shoots across open cliffs. Ubud works the other way round. Sightlines are short — palms, terraces and ravines block a long lens — and the famous viewpoints are too busy for a private moment. What Ubud has instead is cover and privacy: a villa deck above the Ayung valley where the staff can help set the scene, or a bamboo hut in the middle of the paddies with nobody within a hundred metres. The photographer hides behind foliage rather than among tourists, close enough for clean frames and quiet enough to stay unnoticed. That changes the planning, and it is why we scout the exact spot with you in advance.

## How the shoot is planned

The villa version is the most reliable. A day or two before, you send us the address and photos of the deck or pool, or we visit if it is close. On the day the photographer arrives through the staff entrance forty minutes ahead, finds a position behind planting or a pillar on a lower terrace, and tests the angle on an empty frame. Your partner is told you are going out for a drink with a view; the staff have set flowers or candles if you have ordered them. You walk to the edge of the deck, the valley behind you, and give the agreed signal — tucking a hand into a pocket works well. We photograph the kneel, the face, the hug, all from cover. Only then does the photographer step out, and the remaining time becomes a gentle portrait session around the villa and the path into the garden as the light fades in the valley.

## Timing

Plan the question about forty-five minutes before the official sunset. In the valleys around Sayan and Kedewatan the sun drops behind the ridge earlier than on the coast, and the warm light on the deck goes with it; after that there is a soft blue glow, but not for long. In the dry season, April to October, late afternoons are mostly clear. In the wet season, storms often come between three and five, so either plan a covered spot — a bale or a roofed deck — or move the proposal to a misty morning, which in Ubud can be even more romantic. Avoid Nyepi, when the island stops for a day.

## What is included

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we propose at Tegallalang or on the Campuhan Ridge?

You can, but it is hard to keep it private. Both are busy at the very hours with good light, and there is little cover for a hidden photographer on an open ridge. At sunrise on a weekday the ridge beyond the first viewpoint is the best public option. For a moment that is truly yours, a villa deck or a hut in a quieter field is the better choice.

### Can you arrange flowers or a decorated set-up?

We photograph; the set-up is booked separately. Many Ubud villas can arrange petals, candles or a dinner on the deck through their own staff, and we coordinate the timing with them. Decoration is not included in the $290. In the open fields we suggest keeping it simple — a blanket and a few flowers look natural, a large arch looks out of place.

### Is a waterfall a good place to propose?

It looks spectacular, but it is tricky. The roar drowns out what you say, the rocks are slippery for kneeling, and spray fogs the lens. Waterfalls are also only private early in the morning. If you love the idea, a calmer fall such as Tibumana at opening time is the best bet, with the ring in a zipped pocket.

### What if my partner suspects something?

We agree a cover story and a fallback signal beforehand. If plans shift — your partner wants to stay inside, or rain arrives early — you message the photographer, who waits out of sight and moves with you. In a villa the staff often help keep the secret. If the moment does not happen that evening, we look for another evening that week.
