A proposal photographer in Bali is a 30-minute booking, from $290, in which the photographer stays hidden while you propose and then runs a short couple shoot straight after; you receive 15+ edited photos online within 48–72 hours. Your partner sees nothing until the moment itself. Before the day we agree the exact spot, where you will stand, which way you will face and a signal — a hand in the pocket, a phrase — so the photographer is ready when you kneel and catches the reaction, not the back of your head.

Clifftops on the Bukit Peninsula at sunset are the classic setting: Uluwatu has open viewpoints as well as villa and restaurant terraces above the ocean. Sunrise on a beach in Nusa Dua or Sanur is quieter and easier to keep private, and on the Gili Islands an empty stretch of sand is never far away. Public viewpoints fill up at sunset, so a terrace booked with the venue's permission gives you more control. Venue fees and decoration are not included. In the wet season, November to March, have a covered plan B in mind.

After the yes, the photographer comes out, congratulates you both and turns the rest of the half-hour into a relaxed couple session while the emotions are still fresh — including close-ups of the ring. ### How do you keep it a secret?

Everything goes through you on WhatsApp; your partner never sees a booking. You get a pinned spot and a photo of exactly where to stand. The photographer arrives twenty minutes early, dressed like a visitor, and starts shooting when you give the agreed sign — touching your cap, say. If you are running late or the spot is crowded, you send one word and we switch to the back-up place nearby.

### Where is a good place to propose in Bali?

A west-facing cliff in Uluwatu at sunset, a quiet stretch of beach at sunrise, or the jungle edge in Ubud. Public places cost nothing but come with other people; cliff-top restaurants and villas can reserve a corner or a decorated set-up, which they charge for separately. Avoid temples: they are places of worship, and a proposal with a photographer inside one is not appropriate.
