## In short

A pre-wedding photoshoot in Ubud costs from $590 for 30 minutes and includes one outfit, one location and 15+ edited photos delivered within 7 days. A typical plan is the rice terraces at sunrise; a second look by a jungle river or waterfall is added with extra hours at $100 each. Hair and makeup can be added for $90.

Ubud is the classic pre-wedding setting in Bali because it offers two completely different worlds within half an hour: open rice terraces with sky and light, and deep jungle with rivers, moss-covered stone and waterfalls. The 30-minute starting session takes one of them; with extra hours ($100 each), a second outfit and location let you do a flowing gown on the terraces and something sharper — a suit, a cocktail dress or a Balinese traditional costume — against the jungle. The photos end up on invitations, at the wedding itself and on the wall afterwards, so the session is planned like a production.

## How the shoot is planned

If you add hair and makeup, the artist arrives at your villa about an hour and a half before sunrise. We leave in the dark and reach the terraces as the sky turns pink: the 30 minutes are the gown or the main look among the rice, from wide frames showing the whole valley to close portraits as the sun comes up. With extra hours, there is then a break — breakfast at a warung, the outfit change in the car or a nearby villa, touch-ups. The second location is a jungle river, a waterfall or a mossy temple gateway outside the sacred courtyards, in the soft green light under the canopy. A final stop returns to open space for a few relaxed frames in casual clothes, the ones couples often end up printing.

## Timing

A sunrise start is the default for a pre-wedding shoot in Ubud: the terraces are empty, the mist sits in the valleys and even a longer booking finishes before the midday heat. The alternative is a late-afternoon start with the jungle first and the terraces at sunset, which works in the dry season from April to October when evenings are reliable. In the wet season, mornings are usually clear while storms arrive after lunch, so sunrise is strongly preferred. Book at least a week before the wedding to leave room for a rain date and for the 7-day delivery, if you want the photos for the welcome table.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we wear traditional Balinese wedding costume?

Yes. Several studios in Ubud rent the full ceremonial costume, including the golden headdress, and send a dresser to put it on, which takes about an hour. It is rented separately and can be your main outfit, or a second look with an extra hour. It photographs beautifully at a temple gateway or in a carved courtyard. We help with the booking and plan the timeline around the dressing.

### Can we shoot at a temple in Ubud?

Outer courtyards and temple gateways often allow photography for a donation, with a sarong and sash worn by both of you. Inner sanctums are for worshippers only, and a priest may ask us to stop during ceremonies, which we always respect. Women who are menstruating are asked not to enter temples. We pick places where shooting is accepted and confirm before the day.

### How is the location chosen?

We start from how you want the photos to feel and where you will use them. Open terraces suit light gowns and big romantic frames; jungle rivers and waterfalls suit darker, moodier looks and close portraits. Terraces and jungle both sit within the Ubud area, so travel is included; pairing the two takes extra hours. Spots further away, such as Jatiluwih or Sidemen, are possible with a longer drive agreed in advance.

### Why does pre-wedding delivery take 7 days?

Because each photo is retouched more carefully than a holiday gallery: skin, stray hair, the dress, colour matched across the whole set. Seven days is the standard for a pre-wedding, and there is no express option on it. If a save-the-date or a welcome sign has a deadline, tell us when you book so we can plan the date with enough time before it.
