## In short

A pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali costs from $590 for 30 minutes in one outfit, with 15+ edited photos in 7 days. For two looks, add extra hours at $100 each and keep both inside one region: Ubud terraces and jungle, Jatiluwih and Beratan in the highlands, or a Bukit beach and clifftop at sunset. Long drives are agreed in advance.

A pre-wedding is the one holiday shoot people will happily drive for, so it is where the whole island comes into play — and where the geography matters most. The reliable rule is that a two-look session should stay inside one region. Ubud pairs open terraces with jungle rivers and mossy gateways twenty minutes apart. The highlands pair Jatiluwih’s kilometres of terraces with the lake temple at Beratan or the gates and forest around Bedugul, all cool and misty early. The Bukit pairs a beach below the cliffs with a clifftop at sunset. Kintamani pairs the Batur caldera rim with the black lava fields below. Nusa Penida is a region on its own. What does not work is a gown on Lempuyang at dawn and on Uluwatu at dusk: that is a day in a car with two short shoots at either end.

## How the shoot is planned

The highlands plan shows how a regional route works. Leave Ubud or the south before dawn — Jatiluwih is about an hour and a half from Ubud — and start on the terraces as the sun clears the ridge, gown first while the light is soft and the fields are empty. With extra hours, change in the car on the forty-odd-minute drive up to Lake Beratan, and do the second look on the lakeside gardens near Ulun Danu Beratan before the buses from the south arrive. The Ubud plan is shorter: terraces at sunrise, then a river or waterfall in the jungle light. The Bukit plan runs the other way: a beach below the cliffs while the tide is out, then up to a grassy clifftop for the last light. Whichever you choose, the 30-minute base is the first look at the first spot; the second is built from extra hours.

## Timing

Highland and Ubud routes are sunrise routes: the highlands cloud over by late morning, and Ubud is crowded and hazy by nine. Bukit and Canggu routes are sunset routes. Rice colour is the wild card — Jatiluwih and Ubud can be green, gold, flooded or freshly cut in any month, so we check the fields a few days before committing. The dry season, April to October, gives the clearest highland mornings; from November to March, sunrise everywhere is the safe choice and the Bukit is the driest coast. Book at least a week before the wedding: delivery is 7 days, there is no express option on a pre-wedding, and a weather reschedule needs room.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we do Ubud at sunrise and Uluwatu at sunset as one pre-wedding?

It is possible, but it means about ten hours between the two looks and one and a half to two hours on the road, with the harsh midday light in between. Most couples are happier with two looks in one region, or with two separate sessions on different days. If both landscapes matter, we plan them as two dates rather than one very long one.

### What should we know about shooting in the highlands?

It is cold by Bali standards at dawn, so bring a warm layer and a robe for between frames. Mist can be beautiful or total, and cloud usually closes in by late morning, so the session starts early and keeps a sheltered option. The lake temple is a place of worship with its own ticket; we shoot the gardens and shoreline, never the inner courtyards.

### Do far locations like the Handara gate or Jatiluwih cost extra?

Two things are added. The longer drive from your base is agreed and quoted before you confirm. And the places themselves charge: Jatiluwih and Ulun Danu Beratan have entry tickets, and the Handara gate charges a separate fee for professional pre-wedding shoots. We list each one for your route in advance, so nothing is negotiated on the day.

### Can we wear a gown on the Batur lava fields?

Yes — black lava against a light gown is one of the strongest contrasts on the island, and the fields are reached by car or jeep with no climb. Bring closed shoes for walking, because the rock is sharp, and keep the train lifted between frames. The summit trek is a different matter: two hours up in the dark is for hiking clothes, not a wedding dress.
