## In short

A honeymoon photoshoot on Nusa Penida costs from $220 for 30 minutes and includes 15+ edited photos online within 48–72 hours. If you stay a night on the east coast, we shoot on the sand at Diamond Beach at sunrise, before the boats arrive. An extra hour ($100) adds frames at your bungalow; the island transfer is $90.

A honeymoon on Nusa Penida usually means one or two nights in a simple clifftop bungalow on the east coast, with no nightlife, a very dark sky and the sea loud below. That stay is what makes this shoot possible. Because you are already on the island, we can walk down the carved stair at Diamond Beach in the blue light before sunrise and have the sand, the limestone stacks and the first sun to ourselves, an hour or more before the first day-trippers from Bali get across the island. The usual Diamond Beach photograph is taken from the top, looking down at strangers; this one is taken on the beach, two people barefoot at the edge of the water with the cliff glowing behind them. It feels private because it is — which is what most couples want from a honeymoon gallery.

## How the shoot is planned

We meet at the top of the Diamond Beach stair while it is still dark enough for a torch, and walk down slowly — about ten minutes — so you arrive on the sand as the sky turns from blue to pink. The first frames are wide: the two of you small at the waterline, the pointed stacks offshore, the stair zigzagging up the cliff behind. As the sun clears the horizon it lights the cliff face orange, and we move in closer for the portraits that carry the gallery — foreheads together, walking through the wash, sitting on the sand. We finish halfway up the stair, looking back over the beach, before the first visitors start coming down. With an extra hour, we go back to your bungalow afterwards for slow breakfast-on-the-terrace frames while the light is still soft.

## Timing

Sunrise is the only sensible slot here: the coast faces due east, and by nine the sand is in full sun, hot and busy. That makes a night on the east side of the island essential — from the harbour it is well over an hour on winding roads, and boats from Bali arrive long after the light is gone. Book the first morning after you arrive, so a cloudy dawn can move to the next. April to October usually brings clear sunrises and calm mornings; in the wet season the sky can be dramatic, but storms are more common late in the day than at dawn. The shore break here is strong year-round, so water frames stay at ankle depth.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you photograph us at our bungalow?

Yes, as the session itself or as an extra hour after the beach. Penida stays are simpler than Bali villas — a wooden bungalow, a terrace, sometimes a small pool on the cliff — but a view of the sea from a doorway is a beautiful frame. Ask the host before booking whether outside photographers are welcome; most small places are relaxed about it.

### Can we have a floating breakfast or a flower bath like in Ubud?

Some clifftop stays on Penida offer them, many do not — this is not the polished villa scene of Ubud or Seminyak. If yours does, we photograph it as part of the extra hour. If not, breakfast on the terrace looking over the sea often makes a better, more honest frame than a staged tray in a pool.

### Is the Diamond Beach stair safe in the dark?

With a torch and proper shoes, yes. The stair is carved into the rock with a rope or rail on the steepest parts; we go down slowly in the last blue light, not in full darkness. Change into photo shoes at the bottom. After heavy rain the steps can be slippery, and if they are, we shoot from the top viewpoint and the upper stair instead.

### Can we swim in the photos at Diamond Beach?

Paddling, yes; swimming, no. The beach drops off quickly and the shore break is strong even on calm-looking days, so we keep water frames to the wash at the edge. For swimming photos the bay at Atuh next door is far calmer — that can be the second location if you add an extra hour.
