## In short

A honeymoon photoshoot in Jakarta costs from $220 for 30 minutes, usually at your hotel — the suite, the pool deck or a terrace with the skyline — timed for sunset or blue hour. You receive 15+ edited photos within 48–72 hours, or within 24 hours for $50 if you fly on to Bali the next day.

Nobody plans a honeymoon in Jakarta, and yet many honeymooners pass through it: the long-haul flight lands at Soekarno-Hatta, and there is a night before the connection to Bali, Lombok or Labuan Bajo. Indonesian newlyweds, meanwhile, often spend their first nights in a city hotel before travelling. That first night is worth photographing. It has a mood the beach days will not — a high-floor suite with the city glittering below, a rooftop pool between towers, the two of you still a little dazed. A session here is less about the city than about the hotel and the hour. It is also the moment to do it calmly, before the itinerary takes over, and the express delivery means the photos are waiting for you when you land at the next stop.

## How the shoot is planned

Everything happens in and around one building, which is the right call in a city where moving costs light. We arrive about forty minutes before sunset and start in the suite: the two of you by the floor-to-ceiling window, a moment with the champagne the hotel sent up, getting ready to go down. As the light drops, we move to the pool deck or the hotel’s terrace bar — with the venue’s agreement, arranged a day ahead — for the last warm light on the towers and then the blue hour, when the windows across the city switch on one by one. The final frames are the ones honeymooners keep: the two of you as silhouettes against a lit skyline, close and still. If your hotel has no view, we walk five minutes to the nearest pedestrian bridge instead and swap the rooftop for the avenue.

## Timing

Book the session to end around 18:30. Sunset in Jakarta is close to 18:00 in every month, and the blue hour after it lasts only about twenty minutes, so the suite frames come first and the terrace last. If you land the same day, do not schedule a shoot that evening: arrival, immigration and a drive of an hour or more from the airport leave you tired, and it shows. The evening of your first full day, or the morning before your onward flight, is more realistic. From June to September the skyline is often hazy, which favours blue hour over sunset; in the wet season, an evening storm can wash the air clear and leave the terrace glistening, so we keep an indoor plan and wait it out.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will our hotel let a photographer onto the rooftop or pool deck?

Most hotels do for their own guests, but each sets its own rules, and rooftop bars run by separate operators may want a table booking or a fee. We ask on your behalf a day or two ahead, using your reservation name. Any venue charge is passed on at cost, and if the answer is no, we use your suite and a nearby public bridge instead.

### Can we also shoot on a Thousand Islands day trip?

It is possible but needs planning. The resort islands of Kepulauan Seribu are reached by boat from the north of the city, and the crossing takes from about one to a few hours depending on the island. The photographer’s boat seat and any island fees are extra and quoted in advance, and shooting time beyond the first 30 minutes is booked in extra hours at $100.

### Can you photograph the room decoration the hotel prepared?

Yes — towel swans, petals on the bed, a cake with your names. We photograph the details first, before you are in the frame, so nothing is disturbed. These shots take a couple of minutes and sit nicely at the start of the gallery. Let the hotel know we are coming so they finish the decoration before the session starts.

### Should we do the honeymoon shoot here or wait for Bali?

They are different photos. Bali gives you beaches, cliffs and jungle villas; Jakarta gives you the city-night mood that no resort can. If you only want one, choose Bali, where the honeymoon itself happens. If you like the idea of a two-chapter story — the first night in the city, then the island — book both and ask for express delivery here.
