## How the shoot is planned

The 30-minute session is the sunset itself: we meet on the west coast, start in a palm-lined lane a few steps from the sand, walk into the shallows, and finish facing Bali with Agung’s cone on the horizon and the sky turning pink. With an extra hour ($100) we meet earlier and make a ride of it: cycling side by side through the lanes, the clear still water of the east-facing beaches in the afternoon, then the swings and jetties at golden hour. If you are on Meno, the quiet western beaches replace the swings and there is nobody else in the frame.

## Timing

Sunset on the Gilis falls between about 6 and 6.30 pm through the year, and the west coasts of all three islands face it directly across the strait. The dry season, roughly April to October, gives the clearest views of Agung and the calmest water for the shallows; in the wet season, November to March, afternoon storms can roll in, though they often clear into dramatic skies by dusk. Trawangan’s sunset bars and swings get busy from 5 pm, so we arrive early or shoot on the quieter stretches. Fast boats from Bali are least reliable in rough seas around July and August, so plan the shoot for the middle of your stay rather than your last day.

Light, flowing fabrics in white, sand, sage or soft pastels suit the island palette and move well in the breeze off the strait. If you add an extra hour, bring a second look for sunset, perhaps something with more colour or a dressier outfit. You will be cycling and walking on sand, so skip heels and choose sandals you can kick off. Swimwear works for the shallows, but cover up in the villages: the islands are mostly Muslim and modest dress is respected away from the beach.

### Can you add drone shots or underwater photos?
