## In short

Drone video on Nusa Penida costs from $320 for 30 minutes of flying with a licensed pilot, edited into a 60–90 second aerial film with licensed music, plus the raw 4K clips, delivered in 5–7 days. We usually fly the Thousand Islands and Atuh at sunrise. The pilot’s island transfer is a $90 add-on.

Aerial photographs freeze Penida’s shapes; aerial video lets them unfold. A drone that starts low over the water and rises past a cliff face until the whole east coast appears is the kind of shot the island exists for, and it is different work from a drone photoshoot. Instead of placing a person in a frame, the pilot flies long, slow, continuous moves — reveals, orbits, tracking runs along the cliff line — that need room, calm air and an unhurried half hour. That is why we usually fly the east coast rather than Kelingking: the Thousand Islands viewpoint and Atuh sit side by side, the islets and the rock arch give the camera something to move around, and at sunrise there are few people below. You get the edited film and every raw 4K clip, for your own cuts.

## How the shoot is planned

The pilot launches from open ground back from the Thousand Islands viewpoint, clear of the tree house and anyone on the cliff. The first flight is the establishing reveal: low over the sea among the islets, then a steady climb until the coast curves away north behind them. Next comes a slow orbit around the largest islets, where the water changes colour over the reef. Then the drone moves south along the cliff line towards Atuh, a long tracking run with the rock arch and the little offshore island coming into frame, finishing with a top-down pass over the bay. If you want to appear in the film, you stand on the clifftop for a couple of passes, as a small figure for scale. Batteries are swapped between flights, so each move is flown more than once.

## Timing

Wind and light both point to sunrise. The east coast catches the first sun across the sea, and the air is usually calmest in the early morning; by late morning in the dry season the trade wind on the exposed cliffs can push past what is safe for smooth video, even when it is still flyable. April to October gives the clearest water, which matters most from above; November to March can bring glassy seas at dawn and dramatic clouds, but less dependable visibility. The pilot checks the wind forecast the evening before and again on site and will not fly if the footage would be unusable or the flight unsafe — a spare morning is the easiest insurance, and it means staying on the island.

## What is included

## Frequently asked questions

### How is this different from the drone photoshoot?

The drone photoshoot is about you: 15+ aerial photos with a photographer directing you on the ground. Drone video is about the landscape in motion — continuous moves edited into a 60–90 second film, plus raw clips — and people appear only as scale. If you want both, they can be flown the same morning, one after the other.

### What can we do with the raw clips?

Cut your own reels and stories, use a single shot as a background for a wedding website, or hand them to an editor for a longer travel film. They are ungraded 4K files from the flight, so they also hold up if you want a different look from our edit.

### Can you also fly Kelingking or Diamond Beach?

Diamond Beach is next door and fits into the same sunrise if the stair is still empty — we will not fly low over people on it. Kelingking is on the opposite side of the island, so it is a separate session, usually in the late afternoon; at midday the viewpoint is too crowded to fly over responsibly.

### Do we need a drone permit on Nusa Penida?

Penida is outside the restricted zone around Bali’s airport and is not a national park, so no national-park permit is needed. Our pilot flies under the Indonesian rules on height, line of sight and distance from people. Some viewpoints are managed by the local village and may ask for a small fee or limit flights on busy days; we follow what they say on site.
