## In short

Drone video at Mount Bromo costs from $320 for 30 minutes of flying, delivered in 5–7 days as a 60–90 second edited aerial film with licensed music, plus the raw 4K clips. We fly over the sea of sand and around Batok in early-morning light. The park’s drone permit, entry tickets and the jeep are paid separately.

Bromo is a landscape built in layers, and only a moving camera above it shows them in order: the outer rim of the Tengger caldera, the flat sea of sand inside, Batok’s grooved cone, the smoking pit of Bromo, and Semeru standing behind everything with its own plume. A drone video can travel through those layers in one continuous shot — rising off the sand, gliding past Batok, revealing the crater steam with Semeru beyond — which is impossible from any viewpoint on the ground. That is what this session is for: a short aerial film of the caldera itself, with you, a jeep or nobody at all in it. The constraints are real and they shape the plan. Flights need the national park’s permission in advance, the pilot keeps clear of crowds, the temple and the vent, and thin cold air shortens every battery. Planned around them, thirty minutes in the air is enough for the shots that matter.

## How the shoot is planned

We take off from the caldera floor after the sunrise crowd has gone back up, around 6:45, from a spot cleared with the permit and away from people. The flight plan is a sequence of shots rather than a wander: a low, fast run over the ash following a jeep track or your jeep itself, coordinated with the driver by radio or hand signals; a slow rise from ground level that lifts the horizon and reveals the full width of the caldera; an orbit at a safe distance around Batok, its ridges sliding past as light rakes across them; and a long push towards Bromo that stops well short of the crater, letting the steam drift across the frame with Semeru in the distance. If cloud is lying in the caldera, we fly just above it for the sea-of-cloud shot. The edit cuts these into a 60–90 second film, and you get all the raw 4K clips from the flight as well.

## Timing

Fly between about 6:45 and 8:15. The low sun from the east sculpts every ridge on Batok and stretches the shadows of jeeps across the sand, and the air is usually calmest early. By mid-morning the wind over the caldera strengthens and gusts, which makes smooth tracking shots impossible and drains batteries fighting it. The best months are June to September, when skies are clearest and a sea of cloud often fills the caldera at dawn; the trade-off is the cold, which cuts flight time. From November to April low cloud and drizzle often ground the drone completely, so we keep a backup morning. Any rise in the volcano’s alert level overrides all plans.

## What is included

The Drone video package in Mount Bromo covers: A 60–90 second edited aerial film; The raw 4K clips from the flight; Location checked against no-fly zones before the day; Licensed music and colour grading; Delivery within 5–7 days. Nothing is added to the price after the shoot. Permits worth knowing about: Penanjakan viewpoint — national park entry fee (higher at weekends and holidays) plus 4×4 jeep hire; drone use needs park permission; King Kong Hill — covered by the national park entry; reached by jeep on the Penanjakan road; Sea of Sand (Pasir Berbisik) — covered by park entry; flares, smoke bombs and fireworks are banned after the 2023 savanna fire; Savanna Teletubbies — covered by park entry; jeep access via the southern caldera track; Bromo crater rim — covered by park entry; horses to the foot of the stairs are paid separately; closed when the alert level rises; Madakaripura waterfall — entry ticket and a local guide, paid on site; can close in the wet season for flash-flood risk.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you film the sunrise from the air?

Not over the viewpoints — at sunrise they hold hundreds of people, and flying over crowds is unsafe and not permitted. What is possible, permit and conditions allowing, is a flight from a quiet point away from the crowds into the early light just after sunrise, when the cloud is still lying in the caldera. We plan this case by case.

### Do we need to be in the video?

No. Many people book it for a pure landscape film of the caldera. If you want to appear, you are most effective small and moving — walking on the sand, riding a horse, standing on the roof of the jeep as the drone pulls away — so the film keeps the scale of the place.

### What happens if the drone permit is refused or the park closes?

We tell you as soon as we know — before you travel if the permit is the problem. Closures for volcanic activity can come at short notice; in that case we look at moving to another morning of your stay. We never fly without permission to save a booking.

### What can we do with the raw clips?

Anything personal — make your own edits, cut them into reels, add them to a travel film. They are delivered in 4K alongside the finished 60–90 second edit. If you plan to use them commercially, for a tour company or hotel, tell us when you book so we agree the licence.
