## In short

A destination wedding photographer in Ubud costs from $1,690 for 30 minutes around the ceremony and your first portraits as a married couple. You receive a preview within 48 hours and 15+ edited photos in 2–3 weeks. Preparations, family photos and the reception are added with extra hours at $100 each; venue fees are separate.

A wedding in Ubud with guests is a jungle wedding, and it runs differently from one on the coast. Venues sit along the Ayung and Petanu valleys, often with a ceremony lawn or a deck halfway down the slope and long flights of stone steps between levels. Guests are frequently staying on the coast, an hour or more away. Rain is more likely than in the south, and the sun disappears behind the valley wall before the official sunset. None of this is a problem if it is planned for: the ceremony a little earlier, a covered alternative chosen in advance, transport times built into the day. Our part starts with the timeline — we work it out with your planner so the light, the steps and the weather all fit.

## How the shoot is planned

On a full day booked with extra hours, a typical Ubud wedding moves down the valley. Preparations happen in the villa suites at the top of the venue, where window light is good and the guests are not yet around. The first look is on a terrace with the jungle below. The ceremony itself — the part the starting price covers — takes place on the lawn or deck mid-slope: we photograph the walk down the steps, the vows, the rings and the faces of your guests, then take you away for twenty minutes of portraits along the river path or on a stone bridge while guests have drinks. Family groups are done on a flat lawn agreed beforehand, never on the stairs. The reception moves under a roof as darkness comes early in the valley, and we light it with care rather than flooding it with flash.

## Timing

For a dry-season wedding, April to October, a ceremony around 3:30–4:00 pm gives warm light on the lawn and leaves time for portraits before the sun drops behind the ridge, roughly half an hour earlier than on the coast. From November to March, plan a morning ceremony or one under cover, as storms often roll in mid-afternoon and can last an hour or two; a short shower usually leaves clean, dramatic light behind it. July and August are the busiest months for Ubud venues and suppliers. Allow time for guests coming from the coast — on a weekend afternoon the drive can stretch well beyond an hour.

## Frequently asked questions

### Most of our guests are staying in Seminyak. Does Ubud still work?

It does, with a shuttle. Planners usually arrange a bus from the coast, and the timeline builds in at least an hour and a half for the drive. The photographer’s travel within the Ubud area is included, and we are on site before guests arrive. Some couples move everyone to Ubud for two nights, which makes the day calmer and adds a welcome dinner worth photographing.

### Our venue has a lot of steps. Will that affect the photos?

Only in the planning. Steps look beautiful in photographs — the walk down to the ceremony is often a favourite frame — but they slow older guests and a long dress. We time the procession, check where elderly relatives will sit, and keep group photos on level ground. If a venue has a buggy or a side path, we include it in the plan.

### How many extra hours does a full Ubud wedding day need?

It depends on what you want covered. Preparations and first look usually add one to two hours, family photos and cocktail hour another, and staying through dinner, speeches and the first dance two or three more. Each hour is $100 on top of the $1,690 starting price. We write the hours into the timeline with your planner so there are no surprises.

### Can you photograph Balinese dancers or a gamelan at the reception?

Yes, and in Ubud — the home of many dance troupes — it is a popular part of the evening. Performers are booked through your planner. We agree beforehand where they will perform so the area is lit, shoot from the sides rather than blocking guests, and catch the reactions as much as the dance itself.
