## In short

A wedding photographer on Nusa Penida costs from $1,690 for 30 minutes around the ceremony — the vows and your first portraits as a married couple — with 15+ edited photos, a preview in 48 hours and the full gallery in 2–3 weeks. A longer day is booked in extra hours at $100; the photographer’s island transfer is $90.

A full wedding with guests on Nusa Penida is possible, but it is unusual, and it is worth knowing why before you fall for the cliffs. The island has very few places set up for events: most accommodation is small bungalows and guesthouses, catering and sound have to come across from Bali, and every guest needs a boat both ways, so the timeline is set by the sea as much as by the planner. Couples who do it well usually choose one of two shapes. Either a small wedding at a clifftop resort or a rented property on Penida with a dozen guests who stay overnight, or the ceremony on Nusa Lembongan next door, which has more established resorts and beach venues, with a portrait trip to the Penida cliffs. Either way, the photography follows the same principle: the ceremony first, then the scale of the island.

## How the shoot is planned

The 30-minute core is built around the ceremony at your venue: the walk in, the vows, the rings, the first kiss and the hugs from guests, photographed close and then wide enough to show where you are. Straight after, while guests take their drinks, we take you two aside for the first portraits on the venue’s own clifftop or beach. Couples who add extra hours usually split them in two: the preparations and the details before the ceremony, and a portrait run afterwards — on Penida, a short drive to a viewpoint on the same coast in the late light; on Lembongan, the walk along the cliffs towards Devil’s Tear or the yellow bridge to Ceningan. Dinner, speeches and the first dance follow, under whatever light the venue has, which we check in advance.

## Timing

Most weddings here are timed for the ceremony to finish about an hour before sunset, so the portraits catch the warm light and the reception runs into the evening. That only works if guests are staying the night: the last scheduled boats back to Bali leave in the afternoon, and a crossing in the dark is not something to plan a wedding around. Dry season, April to October, is the safer bet for weather, though July and August bring the strongest trade winds and the occasional cancelled crossing. From November to March, afternoon storms are common, so a covered fallback is essential. Nyepi, when no boats run and lights must stay off, is impossible; Galungan is a busy family holiday on the island too.

## Frequently asked questions

### Are there wedding venues on Nusa Penida?

Only a handful, mostly clifftop resorts and larger rented properties that host small weddings on request; it is not a venue market like Uluwatu. Nusa Lembongan has more choice. We do not sell venues, but once you have a shortlist we can tell you how each one photographs — where the light falls at ceremony time, and where there is shelter if it rains.

### Can guests come over just for the day?

For a morning ceremony, yes, if they catch an early boat and leave on an afternoon one — but then the celebration ends at lunch. For a sunset ceremony with dinner, everyone needs a bed on the island, and simple accommodation fills up in July and August. Many couples book a block of rooms at or near the venue for the whole group.

### What is the rain plan on Penida?

The venue must have a covered area big enough for the ceremony and dinner — a restaurant pavilion or a large open-sided bale — because there is nowhere else to go on a small island. In the wet season, November to March, storms usually arrive in the afternoon, so a late-morning ceremony is the safer choice. Portraits can wait for the rain to pass; the sky after a storm is often the best of the day.

### Can we include a blessing at a temple on Penida?

Penida has important temples, including Pura Dalem Ped on the north coast, and some couples ask a local priest for a blessing. It has to be arranged through a planner or the priest himself, with the right offerings and temple dress, and the temple decides what may be photographed. We shoot respectfully from where we are allowed and never fly anything over the temple grounds.
