## In short

A wedding photographer in Jakarta costs from $1,690 for 30 minutes around the ceremony — the vows and your first portraits as a married couple — with 15+ edited photos, a preview within 48 hours and the full gallery in 2–3 weeks. Getting ready, the reception and the rest of the day are added in extra hours at $100 each.

Weddings in Jakarta are rarely small and almost never outdoors. A typical day runs from a morning ceremony — an akad nikah, a church service or a family tea ceremony — to an evening reception in a hotel ballroom for hundreds of guests, with traffic between the two. Many of the couples who look for an outside photographer are part of the diaspora: they live in Australia, Europe or Singapore and come home to marry with family around them. For them the question is not which beach, but who can photograph a long, layered Indonesian wedding day and still find quiet moments in it. The 30-minute starting package covers the ceremony and your first portraits as a married couple. A full Jakarta day is booked in extra hours, and the planning is mostly logistics: where each part happens, how long the drive between them takes, and when the light is worth stepping outside.

## How the shoot is planned

Take a common shape: a morning ceremony at a family home or a mosque, a church or a hotel function room, and an evening reception in a ballroom. The 30-minute package sits on the ceremony — the processional, the vows or the signing, the first moments as husband and wife — and ten minutes of portraits with whatever light the venue has: a window, a garden, a covered terrace. With extra hours the day opens earlier with getting ready, the parents’ blessings and family portraits, which in Indonesia are a long, careful sequence of combinations that we organise from a list you send in advance. Between ceremony and reception there is usually a gap; we use part of it for a short portrait session nearby rather than crossing the city. The evening is the entrance, the speeches, the first dance and the guests, photographed with off-camera flash so a dark ballroom still looks like a celebration.

## Timing

Most Jakarta ceremonies happen in the morning, which suits the light and the heat; receptions start around 18:00–19:00, just after sunset, which is close to the same hour all year. If you want outdoor portraits, the realistic windows are the hour after the morning ceremony or the twenty minutes of blue hour before the reception — at a hotel with a terrace, not across town. The dry months, roughly May to October, are the most popular for weddings; from November to April an outdoor element needs a covered alternative. Check your date against Lebaran and Ramadan, when venues, vendors and guests’ travel plans all change, and avoid moving between north and south Jakarta in the evening rush.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do Jakarta hotels charge a fee for an outside photographer?

Some do. Hotel wedding packages often include an in-house or partner vendor, and a few venues charge an outside-vendor fee or require a vendor meal. Ask your venue coordinator early and send us their policy; any fee is paid to the venue and is not part of our price. We also need a crew meal and a quiet corner for equipment on a long day.

### Can you cover an akad nikah, a church ceremony or a tea ceremony?

Yes. Each has its own rhythm and its own rules about where a photographer may stand, and we follow the officiant or the family elder on the day. Tell us which rites are included and their order; for a tea ceremony, a list of relatives in the order they will be served helps us not miss anyone.

### How many extra hours does a full Jakarta wedding day need?

Count from the start of getting ready to the end of the moments you want — usually the cake and first dance, not the last guest leaving — then subtract the first 30 minutes. Each extra hour is $100. Include the drive between venues: in Jakarta it can be the longest single block of the day, and the photographer is on the clock while travelling with you.

### Can we have drone shots of our venue?

In most of central Jakarta, no. The area around Monas and the presidential palace is restricted, and the approaches to Soekarno-Hatta and Halim airports cover much of the rest. If your venue is outside those zones and the owner agrees, the $150 drone add-on may be possible; we check the address before you book rather than promise it.
