## In short

A couple photoshoot in Ubud costs from $170 for 30 minutes and includes 15+ edited photos delivered online in 48–72 hours. The town version starts around 7 am at the Saraswati lotus pond and carved gates near the palace, then follows the side lanes. An extra hour ($100) adds a walk into the rice fields behind the main street.

Almost every couple shoot in Ubud heads out of town to the green. This one stays in it. Early in the morning, before the market traffic and the shop shutters, the centre of Ubud is a different place: the lotus pond at Pura Taman Saraswati lies still in front of its red-brick gate, the palace walls are in soft shade, and the side lanes are swept, with fresh offerings at every doorway. For a couple, that gives what the rice fields cannot — texture, architecture, the feeling of a real town you walked through together. It suits people who would rather look like two travellers on a morning walk than a couple posing in a field, and it pairs well with an extra hour in the paddies behind the main street.

## How the shoot is planned

We meet on Jalan Raya Ubud at the café terrace in front of Pura Taman Saraswati, where the walkway runs between two ponds of lotus towards the temple gate. The first frames are there, from the public path: the two of you small against the brick and carving, then closer, with the leaves and flowers in the foreground. We do not climb onto the temple steps or enter the inner yard. From there it is a two-minute walk past the palace walls, still in shade, and into Jalan Kajeng, a narrow lane paved with stones carved with names, lined with family gates and frangipani. The rest of the half hour is walking frames — holding hands down the lane, a stop in a doorway, a coffee at a warung counter. With an extra hour, the lane leads on to the rice fields where the town ends.

## Timing

Start between 6:45 and 7:15. Lotus flowers are open in the morning and close by afternoon; traffic on the main road builds from about eight, and by mid-morning the pond walkway fills with visitors. The light in town is soft and indirect for the first hour because of the walls and trees. This route works all year, which makes it a good choice for the wet season: if a shower passes, the covered walkway and the warung awnings keep you dry, and wet stone looks even better. On Galungan and Kuningan the lanes are lined with penjor — beautiful, though processions may close the road by the palace.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we do the town walk at sunset instead?

We would not recommend it. In late afternoon central Ubud is jammed with cars and scooters, the market spills onto the pavement and the lotus flowers have closed. If the evening suits you better, we move the session out to the rice fields or a ridge, where sunset is calm, and keep the town for a morning another day.

### Can we photograph the evening dance at Ubud Palace?

Yes, as a candid extra. The palace stages Legong and Barong performances most evenings, with tickets bought at the gate. We shoot from among the audience, without flash, and photograph the two of you watching, with dancers lit by lamps behind — not posed portraits on the stage. It is a separate evening and needs an extra hour ($100).

### What if there is a ceremony at Saraswati that morning?

Then the ceremony comes first. We photograph only from a respectful distance and never pose you in front of worshippers. The route simply starts in the lanes and returns to the pond when it is quiet again. We check the temple calendar when we confirm your date, so a major festival day rarely comes as a surprise.

### What should a couple wear for old Ubud?

Colours that sit well with red brick, grey stone and green leaves: cream, white, olive, rust, soft blue. A dress with some length and a linen shirt suit the lanes better than beachwear. Shoulders should be covered near the temple. Comfortable flat shoes matter — the paving stones are uneven, and the best frames come while you are walking.
