## In short

A couple video in Labuan Bajo costs from $390 for 30 minutes of filming, usually on a phinisi at golden hour, and you receive a 60–90 second film and a 30-second vertical teaser, colour-graded with licensed music, within 5–7 days. The boat and the videographer’s seat are separate; a second location is an extra hour at $100.

Some places are better in photographs; Labuan Bajo is better in film. A still of a phinisi at anchor is beautiful, but a few seconds of the sails filling, the hull creaking, water slapping against teak and two people laughing at the bow carry the feeling of the trip in a way a gallery cannot. A couple video here is a short film about you on the water: sixty to ninety seconds, cut to licensed music, with a thirty-second vertical teaser for posting the same week. The boat makes it cinematic by itself — a moving platform, constant light changes, layers of islands behind you — but it brings real constraints too: wind on the microphones, a deck that moves, and a schedule set by the captain. We plan around all three, which is the difference between a film and a collection of shaky clips.

## How the shoot is planned

We film in the order the edit will need. First the establishing shots, while the boat is still under way towards the anchorage: the bow cutting through water, the wake, the two of you as small figures against the islands, shot from the upper deck on a gimbal. Once anchored, the intimate middle: close shots at the bow — fingers laced, a forehead kiss, a whispered line — with the engine off so the natural sound of water can sit under the music. Then movement: walking the length of the deck towards the camera, one of you leading the other by the hand, a spin at the bowsprit with the skirt catching the wind. The final minutes are for the ending — a long, slow shot of you watching the sun drop behind the islands, held until the light goes. With an extra hour, a tender ride to a beach near the anchorage adds a second scene, barefoot on sand in the afterglow.

## Timing

Golden hour at anchor is the core slot: the last forty to fifty minutes of light, roughly 5:10–5:40 pm onwards in Labuan Bajo, depending on the month. Ask your captain to reach the anchorage at least an hour before, because footage shot under engine is noisy and the horizon tilts. For the season, video favours calm over colour. April to June and October to November are the best months — still water at sheltered anchorages, gentle wind and clean audio. July and August bring gold hills and clear skies but steady wind that fills microphones and rocks the boat, so we rely more on music and wider shots. December to March can be moody and beautiful between showers, though sailing is less certain; a sunset hill above town is the land-based fallback with the same deliverables.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you record us speaking, like letters to each other?

Yes, and it makes the film. We record it in the cabin or a sheltered corner of the deck, where the wind cannot reach the microphone, and lay your voices over the footage from outside. Reading on the open bow sounds romantic but usually records as wind noise. Keep each letter under a minute.

### Can aerial shots be part of our couple video?

Not as an add-on — drone footage is booked separately as Drone video, flown by a licensed pilot and, inside the park, under the park’s permit. Booked together, we cut the best aerials into your film. A wide shot of the boat alone in a bay, pulling up and away, is the opening most couples ask for.

### One of us gets seasick. Will the footage be shaky?

The footage will not — we film on a gimbal and at anchor, where the motion is gentle. For the person who gets seasick, a sheltered anchorage, a seat in the fresh air and a remedy taken before boarding all help. If the sea is rough on the day, we film at anchor only and skip the under-way shots.

### When do we get the teaser and the film?

Both arrive within 5–7 days: the 60–90 second film and the 30-second vertical teaser, colour-graded and set to licensed music. If you are moving on to another island, they come as download links that stay active, so a weak connection at sea does not matter.
