## In short

A Bali photoshoot in Seminyak costs from $160 for 30 minutes and includes 15+ edited photos delivered within 48–72 hours. The session pairs the outer gates of Pura Petitenget with the beach in front of it at sunset. A sarong is needed near the temple, and walking from most Seminyak hotels is part of the plan.

People who search for a “Bali photoshoot” usually picture terraces, temple gates or cliffs, and Seminyak has none of the first and none of the last. What it does have is Pura Petitenget, an old sea temple standing a few steps behind the sand, with weathered gates, frangipani trees and offerings laid out on the path. That is the frame that makes a Seminyak gallery recognisably Balinese rather than “a beach somewhere”, and it sits within walking distance of most hotels, so the whole half hour goes on photographs instead of on a two-hour drive to Ubud. The temple gives the culture, the beach a hundred metres away gives the sunset; the session is built to get both into one light window.

## How the shoot is planned

We meet at the Petitenget beach entrance about fifty minutes before sunset, already in a sarong and sash if you want to stand near the gates. The first fifteen minutes are at the temple’s outer walls: the split gate with the sky behind it, frangipani blossom at your feet, a profile against the carved stone while the light is still warm and directional. We never step inside or into a ceremony, and if one is under way we keep a respectful distance and use only the path to the sand. The remaining time is on the beach directly below, walking north along the waterline towards Batu Belig, where the hotel umbrellas thin out and the wet sand reflects the sky. With an extra hour ($100) you change outfits and we stay on through the pink afterglow.

## Timing

The temple stones need the late, low sun: by mid-afternoon the light on the gates is flat and the sand is too hot to stand on barefoot. Sunset in Seminyak falls between about 6 and 6:45 pm depending on the month, so the meeting time moves through the year. April to October gives the clearest skies and the fewest washed-up branches on the beach. Pura Petitenget holds ceremonies often — on full and new moons, at its anniversary and around Galungan and Kuningan — and on those days the temple part becomes a distant frame or is dropped. We check the Balinese calendar when you book.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need a sarong to be photographed at Pura Petitenget?

To stand at the gates, yes — a sarong and a sash, with shoulders covered. They can be part of the outfit: a coloured sarong over a white dress or linen shirt looks good in photos and is taken off for the beach. Bring your own or buy one cheaply from the shops on Jalan Petitenget. Menstruating women are traditionally asked not to enter temple grounds; we only use the outside walls anyway.

### Is Seminyak a good place for a “Bali” photoshoot, or should we go to Ubud?

If you want rice terraces and jungle, go to Ubud — Seminyak cannot fake them. If you want one Balinese element and an ocean sunset without spending half a day in traffic, Seminyak works well: the sea temple and the beach are a few minutes’ walk apart. Many visitors do Seminyak on arrival and keep Ubud for later in the trip.

### What if there is a ceremony at the temple on our date?

Then it is the temple’s evening, not ours. We photograph from the beach side, where processions with offerings sometimes pass in the background — often the most memorable frames of the trip — but we do not pose in front of worshippers or block the path. If you need the gates themselves, we move the session to another day at no cost.

### Can we add a drone to a Bali photoshoot in Seminyak?

Not here. Seminyak sits inside the safety zone around Ngurah Rai airport, and drones are not flown over temples without the priests’ permission or over a crowded beach. The $150 drone add-on is available on sessions elsewhere in Bali; a vertical reel ($110), filmed between frames, works fine in Seminyak instead.
