## In short

A Bali photoshoot costs from $160 for 30 minutes, with 15+ edited photos in 48–72 hours, and the best place for it is usually the best spot near your hotel. From the south coast, shoot Uluwatu cliffs or Canggu sand at sunset; from Ubud, terraces at sunrise. Far icons like Lempuyang mean a pre-dawn drive agreed in advance.

On a map Bali looks like a place you can see in a morning. On the road it is two to three hours from end to end, and the soft light lasts about forty minutes at each end of the day. So the useful question is not "where is the most beautiful spot" but "what can we reach at the right hour from where you sleep". For a shoot the island behaves like four regions: the south coast — Canggu, Seminyak, the Bukit — faces west and belongs to sunset; Ubud and the central valleys belong to sunrise and mist; the highlands of Bedugul and Munduk are cool and clear early, clouded by late morning; and the east, with Lempuyang and Sidemen under Mount Agung, is a pre-dawn drive from almost everywhere. Pick the region first and the spot second, and the 30 minutes are spent in light rather than in traffic.

## How the shoot is planned

Three plans cover most bookings. Staying in Canggu or Seminyak: we meet forty minutes before sunset at Batu Bolong, Pererenan or the Cemagi coast, ten to twenty minutes from your door, and finish as the sun touches the water. Staying on the Bukit, in Jimbaran or Nusa Dua: the Uluwatu cliffs or Melasti beach at sunset, timed against the tide. Staying in Ubud: Tegallalang or the quieter fields around Penestanan at sunrise, mist still in the valley. The fourth plan is the icon day, and it is the one to think hard about. Lempuyang is about two and a half to three hours from Canggu each way and roughly half that from Ubud; Jatiluwih and Ulun Danu Beratan are around two hours from the south. If one of them is the reason you came, we build the morning around it and keep the rest of the day free — not three icons stitched together through the car window.

## Timing

Close to the equator the sun rises and sets around six all year, so the two windows barely move between months — what moves is the weather. From April to October, sunsets on the south coast are the most reliable in Bali and Mount Agung is usually clear from Lempuyang until about nine. From November to March, mornings are the safer bet everywhere: storms build after lunch, the highlands cloud over earliest and Ubud gets more rain than the Bukit. July, August and the fortnight around New Year bring the longest queues at Lempuyang and Tegallalang, which pushes the start even earlier. Check your dates against Nyepi, usually in March, when the whole island including the airport stops for a day.

## Frequently asked questions

### We only have four days in Bali. Which area should the shoot be in?

The one you are sleeping in. On a short trip every hour in a car is an hour of holiday lost, and the soft light will not wait for the traffic. If you are on the south coast, take a sunset on the Bukit or in Canggu; if you are in Ubud, take a sunrise in the fields. Save the long drives for a trip where you have a day to give them.

### Is Lempuyang worth the drive from Seminyak or Canggu?

Only if the gate itself is the picture you want. It means leaving around 3 am, a donation and shuttle fee at the temple, and a numbered queue for the centre frame that can run two to three hours in high season. If what you want is "Bali with a temple in it", a quieter gateway in Ubud or the Sidemen valley gives the feeling with a fraction of the drive.

### Is the drive to a distant spot included in the $160?

Travel within the area you book — normally the one you are staying in — is included. A long drive across the island, such as Lempuyang, Jatiluwih or Sekumpul from the south, is agreed and quoted before you confirm, so the total is known in advance. Entry tickets, temple donations and sarong rental are always separate and paid in cash on the day.

### Can we shoot Ubud at sunrise and Uluwatu at sunset on the same day?

Yes, but that is two sessions twelve hours apart, booked as two shoots, not one session with an extra hour. The drive between them is around one and a half to two hours, and the middle of the day is harsh light anyway. Many people prefer to split it across two days of the trip so neither start feels rushed. A second spot within one area is what the $100 extra hour is for.
